Business Guest WiFi

Recommended Posts

I need to setup a guest wifi system like you would get at a hotel etc...

I basically want our receptionist to be able to generate a code, and give this to a guest to be valid for 24 hours.

I dont want to have to purchase any additional hardware (i have 2 netgear aps in the ceiling)

i can create a virtual server for it

What do i need, something like chillispot? coovachilli?

Thanks guys

Do your AP support vlans?  Does your network support vlans?

AP are just bridges to your wired network.. I assume when you say "guests" you don't want these guest to be able to access your normal network - and only get to the internet.

What is currently your gateway off your network to the internet?  What is the model number of these APs you have currently

Yup they get great reviews - would love to pick up one.. But the dual band models are not all that cheap for home use.

UniFi AP Pro $229.00

When I picked up a tplink n600 for 42$ to my door and put dd-wrt and its rockin.. This was more in line with my my budget for the house, now yes they are ac and n750.. But kind of hard to justify that when no ac clients and internet speed is barely above G anyway ;)

I've only (relatively) recently started seeking Ubiquiti starting to pop up everywhere. The gigabit fibre startup in my area is using their gear too. What do you know about them BudMan? How do they compare against Cisco?

I have not seen them in actual use, but have read enough reviews heard enough from people on other forums that I know I would like to play with them! ;)

You can tell from reading reviews on say amazon who the idiots are that don't read the manual before they try and set something up as well.. Seems they don't understand the concept of a software controller that also needs to be running, etc.
