What controllers do you prefer?  I see lots of back and forth between the Xbox style controller and the Dualshock controller.  I see a lot of people that prefer one over the other, so I was wondering.. what do the majority think? And why do you prefer it?

I didn't want to post all versions of each controller as that would be way too many options.

I really like the Dualshock, probably because I grew up with it. The new one is even better, had a chance to try it out a few months back and it was quite nice to hold!

The PC, keyboard and mouse is the only way to go for most of the games I play. Hate pads, they feel too clunky to me

however, until i get a chance to play with new One controller, i cannot be sure. since the new one looks MUCH MUCH better then 360 one.

Strongly prefer mouse and keyboard, but there are a handful games where I think controllers suit the game better. In those few cases, it's the 360 controller, just overall very comfortable to hold, better support too obviously. Since the choices were obviously geared towards consoles, voted XBox just because they work nicely on PC's too.. note the last console I bought was a couple of the original XBox's for XBMC and no plans on buying any of the new ones, definitely a PC gamer.

The gamecube probably remains the best. Followed by the 360, despite the hideous dpad.

The Gamecube controller was fantastic, and the 360 is pretty good, the DPad is kinda annoying though.

Xbox controller by far.  Thumbs are in the most natural position for the typical game.

The PS controller bends your left thumb unnaturally, so it gets uncomfortable pretty quickly.

Vectrex Controller by far

Hah, had one of those way back when, kind of an oddball that not a lot knew about but played a mean game of Star Castle.

My favourite experience with a controller has to be the Nintendo 64 controller, but looking back it was a strange design and I would probably have issues with it if I tried to handle one now. Too many buttons and most games never even used the entire left side of the controller. And the fact that you shoved a rumble pak in the back gave it a really strange weighted feel. Odd. Odd. Odd!!!

As for a current controller the Xbox 360 controller is pretty good.

Sony PlayStation controller.

Dual Shock Controller.

In my humble opinion it was far more suited for me, I like the layout, and so does my son, who preferred it to his xbox 360 controller, he's ow 15, when he was 12 he actually tried to pair a ps3 controller to his 360, which was funny, as in his case, it wouldn't happen, I think a message popped up though I don't remember what it said.

(Or more likely, I read that while searching google to see if it was possible)

His hands are smaller than mine and he loves the ds3.

Actually, my favorite controller is the NES controller. Its basic, comfortable to use and the buttons feel nice.

Nintendo Wavebird wireless controller for the GameCube is one of the best controllers ever...

Loves my 360 controller as well..

I have big hands, so the Dual Shock drove me crazy because hands always hit each other

Showan beat me to it. The Wavebird was by far the greatest. It fit my hands so well, I still use it when I play old games. The 360 is the second best. I am very hopeful that the Xbox One controller is better than the 360, or worst case, just as comfortable.

I don't like motion controls, and don't find the dualshock controller comfortable at all (badly positioned thumbsticks, poor triggers, too small), I haven't used the PS4 one yet, hopefully it's better.

That leaves the 360 controller as my 'favourite' modern controller, good size, comfortable for long gaming sessions, just a shame about the horrible d-pad.

I dislike the Xbox controller for the opposite reason. I have small hands so the Xbox controller feels large. The Dual Shock feels much better and the D-Pad is smoother whilst I find the one on the Xbox controller to be sharp.

Best controller ever? The Sega Megadrive 6 button controller.

I play mostly shooters, so KB+M wins out for me. For games that better suit controllers though, I prefer the XB360 controller. I think Sony continue to make the same mistake favouring Aesthetics over functionality by placing the left thumbstick below the d-pad (although to be fair I hear that this is better with the PS4 controller). I also dislike convex thumbsticks. Concave sits much better. Why Sony changed this for the later PSOne controllers I don't know (I had the original PSX controller with analog sticks, and they were concave).
