While the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts has been confirmed to run at 1080p, as IGN’s video coverage was broadcast at this resolution, it appears as though the Xbox One version may have a lower resolution of just 720p, which isn’t really ideal for next generation gaming.

This comes from a few reliable sources on NeoGAF, including famousmortimerthuway and forum moderator bishoptl, so there’s no confirmation (though we should find that out quite soon) other than what they’re saying.

Cryptic as ever, cboat jumped in on the action, saying that this is known, and Titanfall will also have the lower 720p resolution.

It’s all still up in the air, but with Battlefield 4 currently at 720p on Xbox One, and with 1080p in extreme doubt for that game on either next generation platform, things aren’t looking very good for cross-generation titles.

This is going pretty crazy on NeoGAF....

I've been delving into the 100+ page thread on NeoGAF to try and find the slightest bit of evidence to which support these claims, I found nothing but comments like "LOL MS DON GOOF".

If anyone finds any evidence other than a person who can't string a sentence together and who has got many things wrong in the past, let me know.

There's hundreds of articles confirming 1080p on both. Why would they say it then if they didn't know its possible?

This is clutching at straws at best. What has the gaming community come to?

cboat has been leaking information for the past year with a high percentage of accuracy, as far as I can tell. Obviously, he/she hasn't been correct 100% of the time, but that doesn't mean you can just ignore them.

I'm not excatly sure what famousmortimer's claim to fame is, but everyone on NeoGAF seems to take him seriously. I wouldn't wholly dismiss what he is saying either.

Regardless, if it were in fact untrue that Ghosts and Titanfall are only 720p on the one, don't you think Activision or Respawn would want to quell that hugely negative rumor as fast as possible? I would say their silence speaks more to support cboat/mortimer than discount them.

For me, COD died after MW1, so I won't be getting Ghosts. And I'm waiting for a PS4 version of Titanfall before I decide which version to get. If the PS4 version is 720 too, I'll get it on the PC.

A friend of mine works for a UK games developer who is working on a next gen title and has told me flat-out that Xbox One is harder to achieve 1080p 60fps on than PS4.  Apparently adding more high res textures & effects which provides more of a visual improvement to a title is more important than getting 1080p since at this point it is apparently more difficult to achieve both on the Xbox One than it is PS4.

That's just what I was told direct from a developer friend of mine I don't understand enough technical detail to quantify that. Perhaps I can get him to post on here.

He really hasn't, it seems like a lot of the information he's giving is guess work. The only thing which strikes to me as an "insider" is the remark he said around EA having something "massive" which turned out to be Titanfall.

Obviously since its something negative about the X1 of course its true, and in turn generates a 100+ page thread and mass media coverage. I personally find it ridiculous how one forum has become the source for all gaming "news". The site bans anyone who makes any remarks negative to the PS4 and tries to voice with logic (EG: The 50% claim). The mods are just as childish as the people who lurk on there.

All of this could have been avoided if Microsoft simply had a decent PR firm...

maybe the x1 is harder to achieve 1080p at 60fps because theyve mentioned how good the new upscaler is so they arent expecting it to be at native 1080p for everything, i also dont expect the PS4 to be much better but would be easier to achieve 1080p cus of the extra stream processors putting it into a mid range gfx card bracket. Games that are destined for the PC to will prolly have higher specs to achieve maximum glory cus theyll have created the effects and everything with the PC in mind to so as not to disjoint the PC gamer crowd whove bin sick and tired of crappy ports and sub standard games for far to long! hurrah to the PC although dunno if i want spend £200+ for a new gfx card to say hoorah my gfx quality beats yours haha

kind of like BF4, on the PC with a powerful enough system youll be able to run it at ultra settings with all the antialiasing goodness the game can through at it still with 60fps.  Whereas the x1 and PS4 will have the gfx dumbed down or prolly more like keep a higher gfx setting but lower resolution to keep the framerate high, is it as good who knows but both systems are defo not powerful enough to run BF4 at 1080p at max gfx settings. thats what i mean by higher specs

It's to a point now, that I don't really even care any longer about this kind of nonsense..  If graphics are the be all end all in gaming, well gaming is doomed.  One of my favorite games (Magicka on PC) isn't a graphics ###### at all and blows away a ton of 1080p, 60fps games.

I will take the 720p - 900p, or whaterver and 30-60fps and the overall package than just a "Graphic Better" bragging point

The ONLY downfall people can find with the Xbox One is "GRAPHICS"...  Thats sad, when that is the ONLY flaw you can find, so they hamper on it to no end...  PATHETIC

Titanfall and Halo will make all of this irrelevant once released.

Why as we getting closer to the next generation console launch there are so many article providing unreliable evidence whether or not the X1 or PS4 will run at 720p. This has become annoying because no one really confirm which only a few game have stated it will run at native 1080p. So what exactly is happening? Mix information is flooding around the forum and article. So many people claim the x1 is less likely to run game at 1080p so if this is the case then it's terrible. Even 900p is not good enough because 1080p has been around for a long time and this is just unacceptable. I really wish AMD and Valve could just change the PC GAMING LANDSCAPE forever that console will ultimately  become redundant.

But i won't entirely bet on them because it's always what's best for business and PC isn't the number one priority when it comes to revenue especially SONY and MICROSOFT will do whatever it takes to hinder the PC from overtaking console as the primary gaming machines. If those developer really want to elevate the gaming experience at a faster rate then we must choose to sacrifice something in order to move forward and abandon the inferior hardware that holding graphic and FPS back. G-SYNC,True Audio, Flex and mantle is what makes the pc gaming so much more robust contrary to the console which will definitely be obsolete in few years and the worst part of it is that the PC Game might not receive those new feature because of console unless the developer willing to fully optimize from top to bottom and that will be catastrophe for majority of developer because they won't likely care much. This is not the future and it just slowing down the process.  We need a concise vision for unified gaming machines that will not be easily obstruct by cross platform problem.

It doesn't bother me at all really since I play all the multiplats on my computer and at a higher res than the xbox and ps4. I only play Xbox for Halo and other exclusives, and if they look as good as Ryse and Forza then I don't really care about the resolution.
