Super Mario 3d World - 6 min gamplay

Please say this uses the Wii U Pro Controller and not any of that motion control crap.

Talking of which, is the Wii U Pro Controller the only controller that will work? They're ?38 to buy :|

I'm pretty sure you can use the wii u pro controller in this. Along side of the gamepad and wiimotes

The game can also be played using the Wii Remote (Plus) alone, the Wii Remote with Nunchuk, the Classic Controller (Pro), and the Wii U Pro Controller.

Sweet.

Do you think the game controls will work 100% with the older Wii (Classic and Classic Pro) controllers? I hope so, they're much cheaper to buy.

Price info., in case people are interested :):

  • Wii Classic Controller - White (2006) - ?12
  • Wii Classic Controller Pro - Black (2009) - ?16
  • Wii Classic Controller Pro - White (2009) - ?24
  • Wii Classic Controller Pro - Red (2011) - ?24
  • Wii U Pro Controller - Black (Nintendo Wii U) (2012) - ?38

I guess what I'm asking is, why buy the Wii U Pro Controller over the Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro?

According to the video the main player uses the pad, the other can use either the classic wand or a pro controller.

In one of the reviews they mention there is a bit of "silly" use of the gamepad like blowing into the mic or tapping the touch screen.  So not sure how this would work if you are using the pro controller.

I heard this game doesnt support actual analog movement controls, meaning that there are only 8 directions you can move and there's a run button rather than thumbstick-controlled runspeed. Please tell me this isn't true.

why would a isometric platformer need dual thumbsticks, what more than 8 directions could you possibly move in ?

and mario always had a run button, you either walk or you run, for a platformer it makes more sense as it allows more granular control of the direction.

Oh, the world's obsession with cats...

That said, it looks really good actually. (I'm not really a Mario guy and have no plans to buy a WiiU.)

Personally the cat thing was the only thing I didn't like. The flying return being there though. awesome.

What are you talking about? It's a 3D game, there are more than 8 directions you can move in a 3d world, and many games with analog controls (Mario 64 onwards) runspeed was controlled by how far you moved the thumbstick, not by a run button. And where did 'dual thumbsticks' come from?

You mean "SMB2 GBA"?  I don't even count that. It was, for most part, the same game.

SMA2 and 4 gave Luigi his higher jump ability back and Peach got her float ability back in Super Princess Peach.

Yeah ever since the SMA series Luigi has had his signature jump.

SMB1, SMB3, and SMW are the only platformers I'm aware of where Luigi controls the same as Mario.

Yep. :)

In those games he basically was a pallet swap of Mario.

Meant SMB3 not 2.

Did Luigi control differently in the original Japanese SMB2? He did in The Lost Levels on SNES, but I don't know if that's from the original SMB2 or if they retconned it back for the All-Stars release.

Had a discussion in the bath yesterday with my son (out of earshot of mummy). It is going to happen!

The game comes out today, but I don't think I'll get the WiiU this week as I have too much work to do this weekend and I know I'll be tempted to play.

In Japan, Nintendo has released a special "family pack" which costs only slightly more than the premium set and includes two games, a sensor bat and a wiimote. Do many WiiU games use to 'mote or is it more of a legacy item for old Wii games?

I just watched the video posted at the very top of this thread!

Wow, absolutely fantastic...I had a huge beaming smile on my face for the duration of the clip. ;)

I'm not a gamer, nor do I own any consoles, but this new Mario game looks like so much fun!

And it's out today too?  I may have to visit an electronics store after work and give it a play. ;)

Luigi jumped higher, but he also had more trouble stopping so it was easy to slide off things and die.

This seems to be what happens when you go to play a level that uses gamepad features while not using it.
