Asus RT-N56U Opinions ? Anything Better ?

Recommended Posts

Well it's great for when it came out and still good today. Of-course the AC66 router is better now and there's also the AC68 and newer ones such as that. Netgear also has the R7000 which is beasty but pretty top specs.

It all boils down on your needs and haves (as in how much money you have to spend).

I went for the AC66U over the N66U. By the time I was spending that much I figured I might as well get AC and be more future proofed.

If I did it again I'd build my own out of one of the little kit systems posted here frequently. Didn't know how affordable they were when I was upgrading my router.

I got one here , using it with the Virgin Media Superhub in 'modem only' mode , also got one of those ASUS N53 Dual band dongles.

So I have 3 PC's , one wired, another across the room with the N53 dongle using the 5Ghz band exclusively, 3rd PC with another cheapo dongle using 2.5Ghz.

also a tablet and various other family stuff ... xbox, playstations etc when needed , seems to work OK so far, although I could most likely do a lot more tweaking with it if I knew more about whats going on!

Have you tried the USB with any storage devices, seems handy.

RT-AC68u  is the current top daddy of the range.

Do the firewalls get better than my

WRT54GL, how so ?
