Even in Canada this rule applies too. i know a girl who went suicidal after her mother passed on, she had a great job and benefits and got money from disability leave. After 2 years (long time i know) the insurance company called and said they over paid and were going after her legally for the over paid money. Well, she fell back into depression and back on disability again. I felt horrible for her, already suicide and depressed and then learning out about a $20,000 debt. I am surprised they can do this,

I can see it bot h ways, but IMO they should only be able to go after 2-3 years worth. At some point there has to be a cutoff due to their own incompetence in not finding their own damned mistakes.
