Find all the old Windows builds etc

Is there a place where you can download all the old Windows betas and other builds like from XP, Vista, 7 even 98?

I was interested in trying some on a spare laptop that I have, especially the longhorn builds.

I know of a site that has an advanced members FTP with a lot of old betas on it but you need to be an active part of their community (30+ contributory posts before you can apply for AM status IIRC). I don't know what the rules are on linking to other forums on Neowin but I would be happy to PM you the information (I can't give you access to the FTP, sorry, the passwords and usernames are unique to each member)

Might I recommend build 4074? It's one of my favorite "Longhorn" builds.

I wouldn't waste your time. Many of them wouldn't even run anymore.

Dot, when they do run, I find that they are a lot of fun to "play with", especially the "Longhorn" builds.

That is right...   3.1 to Windows 98 can be run without calling home.

Vista and newer is calling home for activation.

Don't you mean Windows XP and later?

There are so many builds. Development ones, internal ones, leaked ones   Someone would make a website of all known available builds, even ones that only changed under-the-hood stuff.

Ah.. good catch... XP and newer.. I think..   but not really sure if XP is calling home for activation..

You can try and see.

I would, but I do not currently have Windows XP installed. It should be noted that Windows Product Activation was a source of criticism even before Windows XP was released.

Longhorn builds were awesome. I loved the earlier builds.

I would like to find Windows NT build number 1 or 10 or the first one that started with a build number.

Still have versions of 2.0, 3.11 and 95 on floppies in storage... now if only I knew somebody who owned a floppy drive.

I would like to find Windows NT build number 1 or 10 or the first one that started with a build number.

I think that's NT 3.1 if I remember right. (Just called Windows NT on the box.)

The first RTM NT build number was build 528. It was version 3.1.0. This build number 528 had increased with successive compilations of Windows NT. We arrive today with build 9600! Shows how much Windows NT has evolved.

I think there are beta builds that even go back earlier than that.

Does anyone know where I could find the Longhorn build 4074 (legally)?

Microsoft should put all the longhorns onto one site and allow people to try them out via a virtual box for historical purposes. Longhorn was historic build of Windows especially how it changed as the years went on.
