Forza Motorsport 5 video shows off Spa-Francorchamps circuit
By Megan Farokhmanesh on Oct 26, 2013 at 6:00p @Megan_Nicolett

A new video for Forza Motorsport 5, Turn 10 Studios' next-gen racing title, takes viewers around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The Spa-Francorchamps is located in Belgium and hosts the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix, Spa 24 Hours race and more. The track is known for its challenging hills and twists. In the video above, the racer switches between a first and third-person perspective, offering a look at the Ferrari F12berlinetta and Belgian Ardennes Forest along the way.

Forza Motorsport 5 launches Nov. 22 for Xbox One. The game will feature commentary from the hosts of Top Gear UK, as well a playable version of the show's test track.

looks nice...i think they are overusing the lens flare/low sun effect. its cool but it gets in the way

that is supposed to be... make harder for you to drive when the sun is in your way...

if no sun or lens flare...  then this game isn't worth.  same way in RL racing.

I like racing in rain, storm, snowing, etc.  which shows you are professional driver in the game.

you race without weather... then you are basic driver..

Looks good, glad to see there's more than just three tracks finally! Also not only is it an actual track its quite a legendary one!

I'm quite a big F1 fan so love to see tracks like this, monza etc added. I hope they update Silverstone for this version too.

Turn 10 replicate real lighting conditions which happen on the track at race times. If there's glare, that's what the racer also sees while circuiting round. A clear example of this is Basthurst which also got added in Forza 5. When you go over the hill, as seen on the screenshots there is a huge glare, but while racing on the track you get the same problem. You can see it in the many dash cam youtube videos.

Looks great... almost enough to make me want to buy an Xbox One.

Anyone notice that bug with the wing mirrors though? Seems to be reflecting the wrong side in each mirror... so look at when the car runs over the yellow and red kerbs... when the kerbs are on the left side of the car, the reflection of the kerb is happening on the right hand side mirror!

That was answered the other day by Turn 10 with a graphic.

With the camera behind the car, the actual lines of reflection are the other sides. I'd hunt that graphic down but I'm at work.

+1

Also I think it's cool that they show the dashboard reflection on the windshield.  I don't remember if previous Forzas had that but it just stuck out at me in the Forza 5 videos.

I'm aware there is glare in real life and should be in racing games (heck GT5 had this years and years ago)..what I'm saying is that this effect is not as subtle and is OVER-done

the sun isn't always in that perfect position every time you race

Actually compared to what I can, or rather can't see when driving to work in the morning or when the road is wet/frozen. the effect needs to be a lot stronger.

Look at this video comparing GT 5 and GT 6 (relevant at the 2 minute mark)

The glare is only a lighting change on the color of the dashboard.  It does nothing to the windshield like it would in real life.  That's probably where you're saying that it's over done because you're used to no windshield reflection.

As for the sun's position, it happened to be in that position during that race.  I'm sure if you'd race at 12 noon the lighting would be significantly different.

I noticed this.  Especially with the yellow lines.

When I played the racing game that had no weather for many years..

then I got the new game that includes the weather.... which I didn't know about..

I started the race and a few miles later... BAM.. Raining on the windshield... I was like 'Whoa!"  Interesting feature!

Same the snow/ice, that makes you slide all over... this cracks me up because my friends kept sliding off the road.. hahahah.

The race gaming companies are adding new features to their games... that will make more tough challenges to us.

The problem is that the car doesn't self reflect. self reflection of non environment object are very resource intensive though.

In the end it's not a big deal... I mean I don't know many people who look at their mirrors in racing games.

.. but... the cloud... couldn't it determine what to draw?! /s

Besides, if you're racing from 3rd person are you a real racer at all?  :D  First person is where it's at! :p

well with Forza first person or hood cam combined with a wheel is a necessity to compete. With horizons, I'm happy to do third person and controller.  well I'll do hood cam and controller on Forza to.

first person I'm not a fan of though, for a few very simple reasons, it makes no sense, I'm wasting 60% of the screen estate on roof, A beams and dashboard, basically even on my 55 inch TV I have far less viewing area than through the windshield on my car. it's stupid.

I think the problem with the cloud is that what is in the mirrors is pretty much real time and we all know that would mean low latency which more than likely will never be good enough. To be honest I'm still struggling to really see what you guys are talking about with the mirrors, I must be blind which isn't going to help when I get it!

I was a little confused too because I kept looking at the cockpit part of the video.  The issue brought up is when the car is in chase camera view the right mirror shows the reflection of the yellow and red stripes going by on the left side of the car.

Looks really nice but I can not stand this thing with flat trees and bushes forming a cross or turn around their axis as you drive to give u the illusion they have mass.

Now i see it, thanks!

However and using your graphic, unless I am being completely stupid, wouldn't the actual reflection be the car itself? I'm pretty sure from that angle it would be nothing but car door?

regardless I race hood cam normally so it's a thoughtless detail (that should be fixed) that won't make any difference to me.

There is nothing to fix. outside of making the entire car self reflective. which isn't going to happen
