DriveClub running at 30fps @ 1080p

Recommended Posts

and once again. give it some time. it'll be happening before you realize it

you can't expect everything all at once

the PS3 & 360 didn't even start with true 720p but look how far they came. it'll happen on this gen as well you just have to be patient (i know that's such a hard concept in this day and age /s)

How common was 720p when the PS3 and 360 released?  I did not get an HD TV until a year or two after.  Now, compare that to today.  How common is 1080p?

I 100%0agree, given the amount of power both the PS4 and the Xbox one have, there is absolutely no reason why they can't run at 1080p at 60fps.

They have roughly as much GPU power as my 6870, which was definitely struggling with some games at high details.  I don't think they're quite as good as you think.

Regardless whether gt5 is true 1080p  which is really doesn't matter. I  find it enormously unacceptable for the next gen PS4 and Xbox one not to have games running at 1080p and at 60fps.

Well I think the question is will SOME games be running at 1080p?

As far as I know, Forza is still running at 1080p60.

I think it could be the only launch title for either system running at that level though.  Is Killzone running at 1080p60?

But the next gen also upscaled to 1080, and thus by your standard, runs at 1080p

Consumers should not accept anything less than 1080p games running at 60fps on the Xbox one and PS4. Its appalling that these powerful systems have games running at resolutions or frame rates, the same as their predecessors.

So I ask the question I keep asking and none of the resolution complainers will answer

would Quake 1 be next gen when rendered at 1080p or even 4k ? no ?

And?

It's like asking if a carriage would be next gen with a gas engine instead of horses. Of course it's not.

But 720p is not next gen either. There's a big difference between upscaled 720p and real 1080p.

If the One and PS4 can't do 1080p on a regular basis it will be extremely dissapointing. It's okay if lanch titles can't but fall 2014 titles should all be 1080p.

1080p TV's came out a decade ago and are the norm in the living room, PC's have been running 1080p games for that long also and are now leaving that behind, with 4K around the corner.

Meanwhile, we've got next-gen un-released consoles coming out next month which still aren't showing any signs of 1080p@60, with 720p being set the standard. - not very good for a next-gen console which is going to last 8-10 years. We have people saying, wait for later down the line, games will hit 1080p@60 on these machines, well why not now? Lazy devs? You say untapped power, but these new systems are not the same as the previous generation which ran custom hardware, these next-gen consoles are basic PC's.

I think it's more about expectations and disappointment. PCs have been running 1080p for so long. Now that a NEXT-GEN console arrives people probably expected it to run at that resolution.

I am a PC gamer but I would pick frame-rate over resolution any day. What's the point of it being beautiful if it's not even playable/enjoyable.

I am a PC gamer and i pick reduced gfx quality over reduced resolution any day. And that's what all PC gamers i know do. They reduce the gfx quality a bit (usually shadows and such) and keep the higher res.

So its alright for Sony and Microsoft to make potential buyers believe that the ps4 and Xbox one are these powerful consoles, but yet can't output 1080p with 60fps, that almost most gaming computers can do?

Not if they are only shooting for 1080p60, that's trivial for PC hardware nowadays.

High-end gaming PCs are pushing 120fps, 1440p, and multiple monitors now.

Why?  Most people that buy consoles don't really care at all about graphics.  If they did, they'd play games on PCs.  That's why this whole debate has never actually translated to sales or lackthereof.

Sony and Microsoft  are advertising the consoles as these powerful next generation systems that are on allegedly par with average gaming computers. If the consoles don't live up to what Sony and Microsoft are advertising them as, it is clearly misadvertising. I do understand graphics  are not the most important things in games but nevertheless the ps4 and Xbox one should be having games playing at 1080p 60fps at launch.

You can do 1080p on a 4 to 5 yo PC (provided it was a good one when bought) without too much trouble even with games released this fall. You'll have to reduce the gfx here and there in the settings but it'll still look really good and you wont have that blurry look 360 games had because of the upscaling (PS3 games probably had that too but never actually got to play any PS3 games).

To me it will be so much dissapointing if next gen games still have this blurry look on my 1080p TV because of the upscaling.

I agree on the face of it, but then there is the eye test.

Since both BF4 and COD are coming out on current and next gen systems, doesn't that mean we should see a difference?  If the X1 and PS4 versions look noticeably better than the 360/PS3 versions, will the details matter outside of this discussion?  If first party titles look better, will the details matter?

Neither Sony or MS have claimed that all next gen games would be 1080p60.  Again, I think we will see first party titles from both that are pushing that.  Forza is one example of that.

Its not hard to build a pc that can hit those specs and I think its very reasonable to expect next gen consoles to match that, but consoles regularly have games that do not conform to the standard we would prefer.  Developers are perfectly willing to not hit these standards if it helps in some other way.

I do not recall them comparing their consoles to computers.  They are saying the consoles are powerful, and they are, but I don't think they've compared them to computers.  And why would they?

It still astounds me that some of you think consoles and PCs are the same industry.  There's overlap for sure, but they're two different beasts with different demographics across the entire market.

Consoles will never match the graphics power of the PC and that is ok because we have PC's for that. Consoles are for casual gamers

You could build a computer that does 1080p 60fps for around 800 and that greatly depends on the game and how well it is optimized for the graphics card you chose. Still a lot more than these consoles cost.

Why are console players casual players? because they don't buy super expensive gaming rigs with double dual gpu graphics cards and 1600W power supplies, multiple SSD's and the latest i7(despite the fact no games for the foreseeable future would be able to max out a i5 anyway).

playing on a console isn't a measure on whether someone is a casual gamer or not.

The game will be good though and the gameplay will be fun?

That's all that matters though, right?

Yes, which is why the SNES still has more entertainment value than any console released this century.

I dunno man.   Yea the SNES had some fun games.. but I'd rather play MGS on PS1 than on SNES.. yea "retro" is fun.. but I would much rather play Drive Club than Nascar '94.

I don't always agree with you.. but on this post I have to.

Infact I see "Console Gamers" more hardcore than those that stick with PC.  Because I can guarantee that most console gamers ALSO play PC games.    Which means they are embracing gaming overall.
