PSA: If you are picking up your Next Gen Console in a store please be careful

Recommended Posts

Some of you will be making you 1st Next Gen Console as an adult...  Some of us, are veteran console buyers...  But we all have the same common enemy (the mugger, robber, or whatever you call them)

I remember making my 360 purchase in 2005 and my PS3 purchase in 2006, and all I saw on the news and web were people being robbed (Violently at that) for their new console purchase...

This is mostly for the younger gamers who were kids when the 360 & PS3 launched and are now adults, who are purchasing their first console as an adult.

To those who are doing the Midnight pickup, please do it as a team (make family or friends go with you to pick it up. And you may want to have pepper spray and cell phone ready) Some places refuse to pay for off duty security to help out.

To those who shopped online to grab there's, it may be wise to ship it to your job, if you live in a questionable neighborhood.  If you took the day off to enjoy your new toy.. ENJOY IT!!!

Lets have a HAPPY AND SAFE, Next Gen launch...

KEEP IT CLASSY GAMERS!!!!!

I'll always remember the video which went viral at the start of this generation; where a guy hangs his new console out of his car window so excitedly, only to drop it and another guy still waiting in the queue to snatch it and run off with it

I'll never understand camping out in front of stores or going at midnight to buy something, as if they are going to run out of them and not make any more.

Sometimes it's for the bragging rights, other times it's to get a head start on a certain launch title

Killzone reminds me of this, on launch it also had double xp for 24 hours for it's multiplayer, a lot of gamers will always try to capitalise on this

Hello,

I completely agree.

I'm the same. I don't think there is a single thing I've ever owned that was a day-one purchase, it just doesn't make any sense to me. I also don't understand people that book a day off of work for gaming. Obviously they are entitled to spend their holidays whenever and however they like, but I wouldn't use my time off specifically to play a video game on its release day.

Maybe I'll get it at some point, but the Killzone franchise never really got me hooked. I think I played the demo for the last one and it was alright, but it just seemed like another shooter to me.

But rest assured that I will get a PS4 at some point. As I've said before though, I've got a library of games on the PS3 that I haven't touched yet so I may as well wait for some of the more anticipated games (Watch Dogs, for example) to come out before I think about it.

You do? I only buy and play the games I like, why buy games that just sit on your shelf waiting til you get around to it? I never understood why some do that, it seems a little like hoarding and slightly like a waste of money to me.

Or I'm missing something.

Anyway to keep the post on topic, I was going in with a couple of mates who also preordered, and luckily, there's a car park almost right outside out GAME, so it should be reasonably safe, not to mention these mates are old work colleagues when we used to work doors :p

Pre-ordered on amazon, it's going to be delivered to my Sisters house (my old house).  I'm hoping if no one is there (there should be SOMEONE) that they will leave a delivery notice and let me pick it up from purolator (have had a few amazon things done like that).

I plan on picking up Killzone on the 15th at future shop during my lunch, so I don't need to download it.

My Playstation Plus membership, giving me an instant game library so long as I "purchase" the games for free. As such, there are about 15 games from the past few months that I've only had a few minutes to play. Half of them probably won't get touched again, but a game is still a game.

I hadn't considered the idea of day-one purchases having such a need for a...cautious mentality. There's yet another reason for me not to bother though!

Probably lol, I suck at FPS games.  The PS4 is supposed to ship the 15th, and it will arrive sometime within the next two weeks.  Kind of sucks.. Amazon.ca kinda screwed over the Launch purchasers in that instead of getting it for launch they are SHIPPING it on launch.  As the first review shows:

After multiple chats with Amazon reps and supervisors, looks like most of us Canadians have been mislead by the original product listing stating this will be a launch edition product as opposed to the Standard edition one. It boggles my mind how almost every other international Amazon store is able to ship their products on launch day yet Amazon.ca is unable to ship till the following weekend. Speaking from the reaction of the online community, we're completely disappointed with not only the way Amazon is handling the shipping scenario, but how Amazon's customer service representatives all don't seem to carry the same information. I hope for future blockbuster releases Amazon will learn from this scenario and realize how it's tarnished its image for many.

I've only waited in line for a release once.  It was for Wrath of the Lich King.  My buddy and I waited.. we were 19th and 20th in line.. I know that only because the store manager came out and said they had 20 copies of the Collectors edition, and it was to be offered to the first 20 people in line.. and we got the last two copies.
