Wii and Wii U Sales Make Up 1 Percent of EA's Total Sales

As part of its release of financial results for the second fiscal quarter, Electronic Arts revealed that the Wii and Wii U account for a little over one percent of the company's total sales, while PC game sales are its top segment. EA said that Wii and Wii U games accounted for 1.3 percent of EA's software revenues in the last fiscal quarter. Of the $695 million in revenue earned from combined sales of console, mobile and PC software, about $9 million came from Wii and Wii U software.

PC software accounted for 39.4 percent of total sales, Xbox 360 games took 24 percent, PS3 games took 18.8 percent, mobile games accounted for 10.8 percent, and "other" brought in 3.6 percent. The Wii and Wii U weren't the only segments that didn't bring in big sales numbers for the publisher: PlayStation hand-helds only generated 1 percent of sales, followed by Nintendo hand-helds at .7 percent, and the PS2, which account for .3 percent.

The data was part of EA's fiscal second quarter for the three-month period between July and September. The company reported $273 million loss for the quarter on net revenue of $695 million. Despite the net loss, the company's numbers for the quarter were a 28 percent improvement over the same period a year ago.

"[EA's] strong second quarter was driven by great title launches, continued digital growth, and financial discipline," said EA CEO Andrew Wilson. "While we have made good progress in the first half of the year, we remain focused on executing our FY14 plan and delivering a full slate of amazing games and services to players on current and next-generation consoles, mobile, and PC."

Of course, the Wii and Wii U segment would likely account for more sales if EA had not either skipped the platform for some big brand name titles or outright ignored it. In other words, the company created the situation in the first place...

Not surprising since they don't bother to put out any worthwhile titles. Of course, they'll still find a way to shift blame onto others, as publishers always do.

I was just about to say this... its been quite some time since EA has even released anything for the Wii/Wii U besides their sports titles.  Just looked it up.. they have 4 games out on the Wii U Madden, Fifa, NFS, Mass Effect 3
