Sony Pulse Headset's will not work on launch. Also no MP3 support.

Recommended Posts

The lack of Pulse support may result in my personal cancellation of a day one system.

Will Wireless Stereo Headset and PULSE wireless stereo headset ? Elite Edition, which are currently sold for PS3, work on PS4 at launch in North America? What about other wireless headsets?

PS4 will support the Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset and Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset ? Elite Edition following an upcoming PS4 system software update. Existing wireless headsets from third-party companies that use a Bluetooth connection will not be supported on PS4, though most USB headsets will be supported following PS4 system software update 1.50.

Will I be able to play MP3s on PS4?

No.

Can I listen to audio CDs using PS4?

No, PS4 does not support audio CDs.

you have to pay $60/year for a music unlimited sub to be able to play music. also no external storage,so I guess you cant play videos either, and theres no DLNA support either. all media I guess must be retrieved from sony services.

That is pretty bad. You'd think they'd keep features that was on the PS3 at least.

No way, I have a real hard time believing that the ps4 will not only not support mp3 playback, it also will not support cd audio playback?  That would be a very silly omission.

Its even worse that they do not say those features are just delayed until a later update, they just wont be supported.

Wow, after reading through this list, there are some interesting claims:

1.  You must use a replacement hard drive larger than 160GB.  It also must comply with SATA II standards.

-If these two things are true, it brings into question if the system can make use of an internal SSD.  Having to use an ssd larger than 160GB isn't the worst thing, but if the system is limited to SATA II, it would limit the improvements SSDs could offer.

2. No external storage is supported.

-I know this was mentioned before, but they pretty much shut the door that this might be added later.  They don't even say that external drives can be used to play media from, such as videos or audio.

3.  4K output is not available (movie or game output at 4k)

-They mention that this is in consideration, but no mention of when the support might come.

4. No DLNA or media server support.

-This is huge for those of us that want to stream local media to our consoles.  I am shocked that Sony is outright saying no to support for this, not even hinting that they are working to add that.  Could be a fairly big issue for users like myself.

Also, there are some interesting statements on the recording and sharing features:

Q: Are users able to record, distribute or stream any gameplay video?

A: No. Users may not be able to record certain areas within the game. Developers can select the area of restriction, and what will be restricted will depend on game titles. In these cases, recording will be temporarily suspended during the scene.

------------

Q: Can I add voiceover to my Shared video?

A: You can?t add voiceovers to a shared video clip, but you can speak in real time when streaming live video.

------------

Q: Can I share my game videos on YouTube?

A: No. At launch, PS4 users will be able to use the Share button on the DUALSHOCK 4 controller to upload gameplay videos to their Facebook account, or to stream live gameplay to Ustream or Twitch. PS4 owners can follow PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation.com for further news on other services to come after launch.

------------

Does PS4 support external HDMI-based game capture devices?

PS4 will allow the use of external HDMI-based capture devices following an upcoming system software update ? please follow PlayStation.Blog and PlayStation.com for news following the launch of PS4.

I'm scared to visit /r/gaming right about now.

They hate xbox this year, so its safe. They're probably upvoting "it's a pure game machine!".. i mean, essentially, this is getting what they asked for.

edit:

quick glance, no mention of any of this on /r/gaming yet

The lack of DLNA support is a huge issue for me, and I would assume a lot of other people.  I was hoping Pulse headsets would be worked out to be supported.  Seems a lot of the OSs for both systems need a lot of work on, let's face it, basic functions.

Don't have any devices that use DLNA and I never listened to music on my PS3.  It does seem odd though that it won't support mp3 files or CD's.   Considering the PSP (original) had full mp3 support as did the ps3.. and PS1->PS3 supported CD's.

I wonder if there was a bit of "Oh ######.. totally forgot about that" from sony.  Considering a day1 patch is required to even support DVD's.

I am still 100% PS4 but some of these things being revealed last minute make me scratch my head.

You don't have a computer, running windows, linux or OSX ? you don't have a smartphone ? your TV is older than 5 years ?

DLNA is everywhere.

My TV isn't older than 5 years.. but it is like an el-cheapo sony 40" TV that I got for free with matress purchase.   I have windows 7 installed, but no media stuff enabled.. I just use a shared folder and access my stuff that way.

Also, I do have a smart phone but I never have anything stored on it.

DLNA from your phone means you can open your pictures or videos you took with your phone an click the share to button and have them show up on a DLNA compatible device.

I didn't know I even had a DLNA compatible device.  I've never had a TV that supported it (I figured it was limited to that).. everything I do is just wired in or file system is remotely accessed.

yeah im praying the dlna stuff is not true because it would be a total deal killer for me.  As well as no mp3.   I just highlly doubt it would be without those but it would make me understand why they are being  so silent and not giving anyone review systems yet.

You cannot play mp3????      What the hell?    This will be a huge issue for me, since I always played my music through PS3

I certainly hope it is not real.      Will it play XVID?   I know my PS3 plays some of the files, depending on coding.

How can it not be true?  This is straight from Sony's Official PS4 FAQ.

Your right I was not really paying attention to where the news came from and now that im read up i am extremely dissapointed.  Something funny just because I had got into a discussion with someone last month about which console had the better dashboard and he said that sonys approach with all plain empty looking dashboard was way better because of dynamic backgrounds and now its been confirmed ps4 does not support dynamic backgrounds lol.

Hope is that it will be remedied and not just left like this.

Yes, that's true.  The PS3 evolved significantly from launch and I'm sure the PS4 will not be the exception.
