Glad no one was killed, or at-least no reports of anyone dead.

Edit: unconfirmed that 1  TSA agent as died.

Nice, the day my parents (well, my dad, my mom got there yesterday) fly to CA. Luckily they went to Palm Springs instead.

NBC and FOX said unconfirmed.

Love the news coverage though, they spotted an AR-15 and started saying how it can fire 500 rounds a minute and all kinds of misinformation

It is, but that particular airport is VERY VERY crowded constantly and the gunman hadn't made it through the security checkpoint it looks like.  There is no security at the entrance, just the TSA prior to the boarding terminals because there is more concern about a "bad guy" getting on a plane than anything else.

Someone bent on shooting up a place could do a lot of damage in that crowd.  But that's the case at any shopping mall as well.

Yeah, it's very difficult to stop somebody with access to a gun and a desire to shoot random people from doing so. I mean, it's not like airports don't have a major security presence. Prevention—whether through improved mental healthcare, background checks or gun restrictions—is the only real way to tackle the situation. I'd be interested to know how many armed guards there are at a major airport like LAX, as I imagine it's a fair number.

I am interested if the guy was just mad that he could not bring his love on board the plane.

NBC (National) is reporting that a suspected gunman has died after being shot by official law enforcement. This is as of yet unconfirmed by Reuters. Looking to confirm the validity of this information.

Information about that are conflicting at this point

http://www.huffingto..._n_4192370.html

A gunman opened fire at LAX, killing a Transportation Security Administration agent and wounding several others at the airport, NBC News reports.

A suspect wearing camouflage and carrying a high-powered rifle was shot and secured by cops at about 9:30 a.m. local time, authorities told CBS. It's unclear how the alleged gunman got through security.

The TSA confirmed that another of its employees was shot and injured. The LAX Twitter account confirmed multiple injuries and that the gunman has been apprehended.
