Being from a dairy state, the only true way to make Mac n Cheese is with local cheddar.

 

But for about $1 per box, you can't really go wrong with the boxed stuff.  You could do much worse.

 

As a side note, does anybody think that the "shapes" Mac n Cheese tastes different than the regular elbows?  Maybe it's just a texture thing, but I can't stand the regular elbows.

We often use whole wheat rotini in our mac & cheese. The whole wheat is a healthier grain and the spiral really holds the cheese.

There's a huge problem with kids growing up on what is not natural and I believe it skews their perception of what good food is and what they should like. What kids like is learned. The appreciation for good flavor and cooking sense starts with making and eating good food. I will eat Mac and Cheese every once in a while but I do not like how prominent it is in our culture.

 

Totally agree. If you only expose kids to salt, fat, and sugar they'll never develop a taste for anything else. Most kids hate what is good for them, but with a litter perseverance they'll end up eating their greens without too much of a fuss.

Most people don't know how to cook vegetables properly anyway, and just boil them into oblivion.  Me, I only ever steam my veg.  Keeps the colours vibrant, the flavours intact and the all important slight crunch! Veg should never be mush unless you're making a puree...

I avoid all Kraft Foods' products.

 

In Russia, they've purchased a famous cookie brand and ruined its quality by substituting sunflower oil in its cooking process with cheap palm and coconut oil derivatives.

I think we can say, without any doubts, all packed/canned food had some major processing done.

 

A lot of people don't know 'natural food' even if it slapped them in the face. Even stuff like vegetables and such can be 'processed/treated/sped up' in some way during growth.

 

The big food companies are adding fat, sugar, salt and a ton of additives and colorings to your food. Have a look on the box how long that list can get.

And even the sugar isn't real sugar, but processed corn syrup. One of the reasons for obesity is so wildly spread. No tin foil hat here....

 

Stop eating your meals out of a box, and start eating real vegetables, fruits and whole grain bread.

Be critical of the stuff on the label. When it says 'healthy' on the label, take that with a truckload of salt. ;-)

if they use turmeric, it can be just as orange, and naturally good for you.  and even in small amounts covers everything orange.     i dont think it is that expensive in bulk either for them not to be able to do so.turmeric-komplet-web-final.jpg

Tumeric is used in more expensive things to dye food yellow, along with beta carotene. both of these do not cause as many reactions. Why craft has to dye its mac and cheese yellow in the first place I have no idea. high end chefs are doing away with using yellow cheese in their foods. Why can't kraft.

Ive been into roasting my veg recently, with a little spray of olive oil, sea salt and fresh cracked pepper before the roast.

Get it to where its JUST starting to carmelize on top...Soooooo good, and no water to leach the flavor out, and not mushy at all.

 

Ever heard of washing it before you eat it?

 

Or better yet, Organic produce?

 

Organic produce is waaayyyyyyyy too expensive for what it is, its pretty much a scam to buy it anywhere but a farmers market.

If you want to eat nothing but Organic, you need a 6 figure salary pretty much.
