Of the console AAA titles I've played recently...

Recommended Posts

Just beginning Assassins Creed 4; however it is superior in graphics to Battlefield 4, even without the need to install a texture pack (2GB on BF4), and is superior to GTA V as well. Obviously gameplay we shall see, I just was bored and wanted to share some thoughts as well as get your thoughts.

Battlefield 4: in a word, RUSHED. The campaign deletes itself (known issue via forums), cannot group up with friends in squads to enter servers together (known issue), also, even with the 2GB install, the game looks... bad, almost as though BF3 looks better. Even in single-player, certain aspects such as approaching a carrier at sea, it looks AWFUL. The multiplayer does seem decently balanced, and is a battlefield-esque experience, though it does feel "COD-like" to an extent, when playing anything but conquest.

*Note: If anyone can explain why BF4 has such a smaller texture install size compared to BF3 please elaborate, is it due to the updated engine, or "laziness" or what? Thanks!

GTA V: fantastic single player, 100% in 40 hours, well worth the money, they did a much better job not making as many missions seemingly repetitive and the story wasn't too bad at all. The online component is certainly a nice addition, though it also felt rushed (just google anything related to GTA V online to see the various issues). I do enjoy the survival game mode and though I am only level 30 I feel I can comment on a variety of the game, but overall, due to the nature of the online format they've chosen it can get repetitive until they finally implement the heists online.

Assassins Creed 4: I shall update in a few hours if anyone does actually read this, but please give me your thoughts as many of you should be far ahead of me or completed the story portion and can also comment on the open world aspects.

Rayman Legends: Incredibly fantastic, polished, improvement on an already solid experience that Rayman Origins provided, with PLENTY to do, varying levels, color schemes & environments, unlocks etc.

Thanks to those of you that read this, I am by no means attempting reviews or really any sort of enlightening material other than my own opinion of games I've enjoyed over the past 30-40 days. I might've missed a game I've played but certianly feel free to comment on these titles or others, preferably the console versions please :) unless there is some stellar PC-only title you'd like to share that has come out recently!

BF4: Didn't bother buying it. Battlefield is the new name for COD, period.

GTA V: Great game, my only beef is Police, they're not around unless you get stars, would have been better if they were out patrolling the streets like in the previous games. The ONLY time you see them is when you have stars, or 1 sat on the freeway.

I also had high hopes for multiplayer, which to me isn't that special. RDR had simular things to do. I just want a GTA MMO.

i finished the BF4 campaign on xbox360,and i agree. the game looks like absolute ****. no, not because its on xbox 360, there are way better looking games for sure. i think their resources were spread thin, because of all the platforms they are supporting. did not enjoy this game that much. theres no way im getting this for xbox one. waiting on call of duty. might play AC iv next though.

Hello,

Im always a screw graphics, gamestory is what is important but to each their own :)

While I respect and agree with your post, I have to assume you didn't even read beyond the first sentence of my post... I talked repeatedly about gameplay and issues for both online and single player regarding gameplay (but very little on story I'll admit).

I really agree with the BF4/CoD comment, as Conquest is the only exception really. As for GTA V yes I tend to agree, and an actually MMO would be fantastic, maybe this is only the beginning, hopefully.

I think I will be taking advantage of the $10 upgrade for BF4 to Xbox One, simply because I have the console pre-ordered, though the community will be significantly smaller. So far I would recommend AC4.

texture pack for BF4?

I assume the 2GB install was for textures as was optional in BF3, though I could be wrong.

The 2GB install for BF3 was probably a directx11/hi-res texture pack which wouldnt be needed now.

If the .cas files are textures its ALOT bigger... BF3 = 16GB install, BF4 is like 26GB so theres ya textures.

I liked the BF4 single player i put it on hard and after playing some bf beta i found it alot easier than i usually would as it gets you into reacting fast. I died on the campaign in the easiest places possible but all the hard bits with loads of enemies i was ducking and diving unleashing hell on them lol. I found CoD black ops 2 multi pretty boring tbh but thats maybe cus of the small maps and 16 player limit so will have to see what Ghosts brings up but the graphics on the CoD games arent as GPU hungry as battelfields, ran black ops 2 max settings no slowdown on a 1GB 6870 but in high particle dense secene in bf3 it would slow to a crawl till i got past it

I believe I see our miscommunication regarding the install, I am referring to the console versions of these games. I too was playing the campaign on 'hard' and got what I believe to be towards the end of the mission "Tashgar" when the game froze, and refused to load the save after a console restart, the following day my campaign save was completely gone as 'start a new game' was the only option, which is an established issue according to the forums. So I shall wait to reinitiate campaign play considering start to Tashar was roughly 5 hours of play.

*Awesome how the creators make fun of themselves & the studio!! (not a spoiler lol)

** This map is huge. I feel confident saying larger than GTA V, hopefully as much to do, if not more & not just empty terrain.

My buddy  showed me this video last night. It pretty well sums up gaming for me lately.  I don't fully agree with all of the points. There's nothing wrong with story driven games. It's more about dumbing them down for casual gamers.

I wouldn't call BF3 or BF4 AAA on a console.

BF is and always has been a PC giant. The console versions are simply different games that do the franchise little-to-no justice.

They only exist because they can directly compete with CoD and gather additional profits. They are an afterthought with very little optimization.

All of your BF4 observations reflect this...

Although I am a big fan of the franchise, I would never suggest to someone that they should buy a BF console title.

I've never liked AC games, can't stand the combat, script, or countless glitches.

GTA is GTA. Pretty much The Beatles of video games. You either love them or you feel they're among the most overrated things in history.

I side with the latter.

I haven't played Rayman but have seen and heard good things.

Ah ok fair enough thought you meant on PC as i dont understand why a console would need a 2GB download file for textures simply because the texture level should be already be on the disc cus thats the best it can do. The BF one can be a bit dodgy i think as it uploads your saves to the "cloud" but when mine has crashed out (PC) it gives me the option to get the save from the cloud or use the locally saved one off my hard drive. If your running bf4 off a 360 they might be taking into account the 8GB one (think thats the least one) if not that sux but i have one very important question for ya.... on the console version campaign does it have auto target?

cus ive seen a video of GTA 5 on 360 with auto target and gunning down the mobs really easily... i dont get it wheres the skill sure you play gta for the story and the lols cus its funny (not GTA 4 though) sometimes on san andreas ive just cruised around in a car stopping at traffic lights like i would in rl laughing my ass to some of the crap that comes out on the radio stations./ Its amazing, but to auto target everything takes the skill out of the game. do you use it?

Have you got a nvidia or amd card? cus ive got an amd r9 280x soon as i drop in the beta 8 drivers i start getting artifacts on my screen, taskbar then games when certain effects comeinto play... scrubbed the drivers restarted comp comp loaded up drivers by itself no artifacts at all but bf4 crashes so i think the drivers are still really unstable

HD 7970. I believe I've crashed twice in 10+ hours. Beta drivers. Very high custom settings, 1080p.

I've had very little trouble with the game excluding slow texture loads towards the end of very long duration obliteration gametypes.

It's not always about the video card... Your issues may be coming from somewhere else.
