Doing a few low speed passes.

Manuals consistently respond better to mods, and end up with the fastest track times.  Not to mention that autos have different gear ratios.  Having driven both, to me a manual is far more enjoyable than an auto in manual mode.

Of course, my current vehicle is an automatic, partly because I had a really bad car accident in 2003 that messed up my left foot, and partly because I bought used and didn't have a choice ;)

Obviously if the above doesn't matter to you, then it is pointless.

I don't know about that. Auto's are great for drag racing. Especially with mods an automatic is geat for drag racing.

Lets be honest with ourselves here.

None of us are driving drag racers ;)

But you mentioned track times so that's why I mentioned that. But if you look on youtube you can see a car like mine with simular mods beating a trans am and civic in a drag race lol.

Sorry.

When I meant track times, I was referring the typical reference benchmarks used for sports and commuter cars:

0-60, 1/4 mi times.

I don't drive a drag racer to work so... ;)

That's what i'm talking about im not talking about actual dragsters im talking about regular cars on a drag strip.

I would disagree then, unless you are running high enough horsepower that you cannot shift fast enough.

Modern automatic transmissions especially with dual clutch can shift faster than anyone could shift a manual. Automatics have drastically improved.

Quite a few of them out there are not dual clutch, however.

AFAIk, the Sonic is not either.

I know my Gen Coupe is not.

I'd still choose my automatic over a manual.

Remember the dual clutch is heavier though.

For me, I just prefer a manual. If I want, I can go straight from 5th to 2nd out of a corner, which most autos cannot do, or will not do it exactly when I want/how I want. Sometimes I don't want to shift sequentially, and I don't think there are any consumer level auto boxes which can shift anything but sequentially.

Automatics have and always will be faster on a track... IF you have a built automatic for racing. A built automatic shifts faster than any human can. Your stock automatic is doo doo compared to a manual, and "manual mode" is a joke for people who like to think they have a sports car. Though, I'll give you, sportier cars are getting much faster automatics now days where they actually are pretty quick from the factory. I still wouldn't drive an automatic if you gave it to me though.

But back on topic, I have to say I didn't hear anything at all the first time I listened until I put on headphones. The exhaust is being drowned out by the autofocus, haha. The interior sounds like it has horrible drone though, hopefully that's just from the camera's recording.

But I'm one of those guys with the ridiculously loud exhaust you referred to before.

I have a performance tune on my car that shifts the stock trans differently than stock. I can see you are a ford fanboy, so I see why you had to come in and hate. Also you must have really ###### speakers if you couldn't hear anything until you put headphones on..

The manual mode will let me shift between 2-5 it wont let me shift to 6 unless im at a certain speed.

Haha, I didn't mean to offend, just saying I didn't hear it at first. You sounded like you were happy that it wasn't "super loud". But yeah, I was watching on my phone so I did have ###### speakers. I just noticed it was a Chevy so I guess you thought I was trying to pick on you, but I assure you I'm not a "ford fanboy", just Mustangs. ;)
