Best Amped Wireless access point?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

A couple of people have recently asked me about extending their wireless network and Ive always told them to look for Amped Wireless as Ive heard a lot of good things about them (on Neowin and other sites).

What standalone access point model is recommended? How about a router?

Thank you

Well, I for one am currently using a Cisco E4200 dual band

it's a moderately big house by UK standards, 4 bedrooms with a 5th conversion, End of Terrace, extended bathroom and kitchen blah blah blah.

And the 2.4 band more than is sufficient throughout the house

the 5ghz is connected to a Netgear Bridge I picked up cheap on ebay and only connects my blue ray and ps3

I had trouble finding amped gear too, when I upgraded to the 4200.

Hello,

The 3rd party seller in your country is ripping you off, not amazon. Maybe their costs are higher due to importing?

Sent from my Nexus 5

The price I stated is from MY Amazon....

http://www.amazon.es/Amped-Wireless-SR20000G-Repetidor-R-SMA/dp/B0084ZYI88/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383580101&sr=8-1&keywords=amped+wireless

Complete ripoff by Amazon

Hello,

This is intresting: I cant find Amped Wireless products in Europe.

You  can order Amped Wireless' online store and they ship to you wherever you are in Europe.

When you are ready to place the order. you can choose the country from the list and fill the rest of your info of whereabouts and your payment method.

I see ?254 from your link.

Back on topic amped make great products.

You could also look at an access point and use dd-wrt 3rd party firmware. I guess it depends on the features you require.

They will send the right adapter based the country code.

BTW, Where did you see that I was in UK? I don't have location setup in my profile..  hmm? Got the wrong person eh?

FYI, I am not in UK..    :)

amped wireless always screamed "spammy douchy" and therefore "****ty" to me. would not recommend. it's like the 4loco of the networking world.

Childish... Seems that you have not tried them...

It works great...  plus you are able to use WIFI outside.   :)

wasn't aware that my E3000 can't wireless outside...

I take my tablet with me to my neighbor's house that is a few houses down from mine. I am able to use my wireless there.    He was like.. 'Hey, did you get on my network?'  lol

The LTE version of iPad have the black edge ... Mine does not have LTE... only wireless.  He knows what type of iPad I have.   If he saw my iPad with black edge, then he knows that I am on LTE network. Unless I show him the wireless icon in the notification bar.

My brother has a LTE version of iPad..  he is able to use it anywhere as long as LTE network available in the area wherever he is at.

Be aware that when importing all your consumer protections we have in europe goes out the windows and you have very few solutions should there be a problem.

Maybe you were looking at Dushmany's post while you quoted mine.

I never had location setup on mine since I signed up to join Neowin.

Enjoy your Amped Wireless product. :)

Hello,

Have you read reviews?

This thread got me interested in Amped Wireless because I've never heard of them and I need a new wireless router.  The reviews I read were mostly extremely negative...
