Best Amped Wireless access point?

Recommended Posts

This thread got me interested in Amped Wireless because I've never heard of them and I need a new wireless router. The reviews I read were mostly extremely negative...

the bad reviews are from either haters or stupid people who didn't read the instructions or description. They usually buy and start using the product without reading the instructions.

I have a router from amped wireless. It works great since I got it. I take my tablet outside no problem.

Ok, but is it stable?  I need a router that will never drop a connection like ever, and barring that seeming impossibility, extremely rarely.  I have yet to try one from any of the major brands that will not do so at least a few times a day.  Range is great, but reliability is more important.

I don't think wireless is what you're looking for. it'll never be 100% reliable. my Asus black knight hasn't dropped as far as I can see though.

I know that that it'll never be 100% reliable.  I need something that will last for like 12 hours or more at least without dropping connection, or barring that at least several hours in a row.  The router I have now (or had, before someone broke the power cord) would often drop connection sometimes several times in an hour.

yeah, that's never been a problem for me with the asus black knight at least. as far as I can see it's solid uptime and connected wirelessly for days on end.

Hello,

Darrian, where did you read these negative reviews? Neowin itself reviewed one some time ago and gave it a 9 with bad web gui and no ddwrt as weak points.

I wanna read that review so I can see the bad points I might have missed.

Thank you :)

I have not had a problem on my Amped Wireless router since I got it...  no dropped connections so far. It has been stable since the day 1. It is reliable to me.

I have no problems on mine since the day 1. See above.

I've got positive experiences with the ECB350 by EnGenius.

With the antenna set to one notch higher (not to "Obey Regulatory Power"), I have -57 RSSI (dBm) two floors down.

And with Cisco/Linksys equipment (WAP610N) the wireless hardware two floors down remained unreachable.

I read them on Amazon.  http://www.amazon.com/Amped-Wireless-Power-Router-RTA15/dp/B00DKX0NI8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1384301711&sr=8-3&keywords=amped+wireless+router

Lots of 5-stars, but also lots of 1-2 stars.  Average 3 stars.

I wouldn't believe it until I tried it but the new Apple AirPort Extreme is amazing for distance and speeds. I haven't been able to MAX out my 50MB/s Down on the Amped or Buffalo products and I was able to do this with the Apple AirPort Extreme. This is over Wifi mind you. I was getting around 30 MB/s at best and now I hit 50 MB/s. Over Lan on Gigabit I was able to get around 90 MB/s through my NAS Storage. I get around 110 MB/s with the AirPort Extreme.

I have no dog in the Apple race so it's just my experience. I would not have looked at even buying one but I thought why not it wouldn't hurt since I have been recently having to reset the Router every few days.

I am also able to reach a signal from my living room to the little pool house in the back about 75 ft away. Before I could get signal but it was intermittent at best and was very weak for the most part and now it's almost full signal strength and I am able to use the Built in Wifi in the TV now to grab the signal.

That's just my personal experience.

You should have gone to Amped Wireless website to look at their products and find one that fits your needs and your budget:

Routers

Extenders

AP

You didn't tell me how much you have... so I just gave you the links to the products pages.

I have a router in my office and covers whole floors and outside... no problem.

I have an e3200 running DD-WRT that hasn't dropped in over a week, maybe look at custom firmware? (I know because my IP hasn't refreshed, and I have a dynamic from my ISP)
