Online Backup Options..

Can anyone recommend any great online back storage options? I am not talking like dropbox and droplr.. I am looking for a service that offers a mac client and point it to the folders I want to keep backed up.. Any ideas?

Have a look at Wuala. They are owned by Lacie. Whilst not the cheapest, they are a reliable provider, and all data is encrypted.

You might want to consider pogoplug. You then have your own cloud as large as you want, just by adding more extremal hard drives.

Compatible with Windows, all versions of Mac.

I run http://owncloud.org/ on my webhost - already paying for webhost that comes with unlimited storage, so why not take advantage of it as backup/offsite storage, etc.

Amazon glacier is .01/gb month so for my 250 gb a month it costs 2 bucks or so.. fastglacier dedups and keep an index on glacier so if you lose everything it can recover itself.

Pretty easy to install, I used the web installer - simple 1 php file you then hit via your url where you placed it on dreamhost.. I created a subdomain off one of my domains hosted there owncloud.domain.tld and bing bang zoom up an running in a few minutes.

Even running it with their FREE https option, you don't have to have a unique IP to run their free https via SNI.

One thing to keep in mind if your goal is "backup" if you run the sync client on your machine(s) this is real time sync.. So for example you got yourself infected with say a encrypting malware bugger, those files could be updated in the cloud as they got infected, etc.

So you might want to only run the sync app when you want to do a backup, so that your not real timing changes to files - which is not really a backup if doing that, etc.
