We always get an error and I dont know if this is happening to all freshly installed copies or current ones as well. Skyfrog Posted November 6, 2013 Share Posted November 6, 2013 There have been a lot of problems with Windows Update on XP for some time now; there's a big thread about it here on Neowin. It happens even with freshly installed copies, for me it just sits at the "searching for updates" part forever and eats up 99% of my CPU. People posted some workarounds that sometimes help and I used the WSUS Offline Updater to download them all to a flash drive which finally worked for me. Being that support is ending soon it's unlikely that Microsoft will ever fix the problem. Error number: 0x8024D001 I already researched it and tried all possible fixes. Some people manage to get it working last month.. But now it seems noting work.. Tried it and no longer fixes it. has been tested on 3 other laptops I installed a dell OEM copy of XP in a VM and for the life of me couldn't get it to work no matter what so I gave up. Left it on over night and downloaded them. it took an entire day and all it found was 106 MB of total of updates. Tried install and it would hang and wouldnt go anywhere. I downloaded the cumulative patch and installed it separately; I didn't allow the Internet Explorer 8 install to download the latest updates.
