HBO has begun development of a TV series based on Norwegian crime author Jo Nesb?'s darkly comic thriller "Headhunters".

The story chronicles the escapades of a high-living corporate headhunter who steals artwork from rich clients to finance his expensive lifestyle. When a heist unexpectedly goes wrong, he ends up in way over his head.

Alexander Woo ("True Blood") will write and executive produce the TV adaptation for Yellow Bird Entertainment and Lionsgate Television. Carolyn Strauss will also serve as executive producer.

The book was previously adapted into a highly acclaimed 2011 Scandinavian film starring Aksel Hennie and "Game of Thrones" actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Summit bought the English-language movie rights to the book in 2011 and was developing a film adaptation which Sacha Gervasi was set to pen.

When Summit was acquired by Lionsgate, the rights transferred to them and they've now opted to instead move forward with this small screen version.
