Cannot Uninstall/Install iCloud Control Panel 2.1.2 (error 2343)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the correct place to put this but here goes...

The problem is everytime my computer boots into desktop I get the Apple Software Update popup telling me that there is an update available for my computer (iCloud Control Panel 3.0), thing is I already have iCloud 3.0 installed (I've also just let it install for the hell of it a few times too, didn't work either so Apple haven't released an update...just the same one over and over). Now I already figured out what might be the cause of this issue, since for some reason when I originally updated to iCloud 3.0 it installed along side iCloud 2.1.2 instead of replacing it. So my guess is the update checker just keeps detecting it. So I thought no problem, I'll just manually remove iCloud 2.1.2 and problem should be solved. However, this is were the problem starts. If I attempt to uninstall it I just get "Fatal Error has occured, error 2343" and I tried to do a repair install and get the same message. After some googling some suggested try re-installing it and uninstalling it as that usually fixes the problem. I managed to get a copy of the 2.1.2 installer but it refuses to install, same error message. I would of tried the MS FixIt solution for the problem, except it's not compatible with Win8.1 and I did try compatibility mode as well and all failed. I'm completely at a loss now, how do I remove it? getting the popup everytime the PC boots is getting really annoying now and I really don't want to have to format the PC just to get rid of this stupid program. I'm running Win8.1 Pro x64 and currently have iCloud 3.0 removed, only iCloud 2.1.2 is installed since it cannot be removed. Is there a way to manually remove it? or maybe something else I haven't tried? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Although I am an probably not the best person to help, can you do a system restore to before it was installed? I remember something similar happening to me when I tried vista, in my particular case it was some sort of registry error and I kept getting a windows is searching for (blahblah).exe.... and so on. Could not uninstall as there was nothing in the add/remove from control panel neither.

If you are an advanced user, might I suggest having a look in the windows registry also?

(I gave up out of frustration and re installed xp in the end)

(Using 7 since launch though)
