+Warwagon MVC Posted November 9, 2013 MVC Share Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) People may find it funny that on a my Galaxy S3 I use a Windows Phone 8 Launcher Called Launcher 8. I've tried a BUNCH of different launchers. This one i'm in love with. Very customizable. The Calender in the middle is called "Neat calender" .. and the email boxes on top are a free widget called "[Gmail Unread] shows you the number of new emails above each email account. So anyone who has not yet tried this launcher I would recommended it. There is a free version but then there is also a paid one, which I paid for. All of the functionality is in the free also but on the apps screen there is a small banner at the bottom. FloatingFatMan
Never really understood the desire to make device A look like device B. It was the same in the early days of Android with trying to make it look like iOS or Windows Mobile! If you really like the other device UI's so much... Get one! Let Android have its own identity. Other than the fact that sort of Title interface is useful on a phone. So you have the usefulness of that plus the large app library of android. Order_66
There's nothing wrong in using bits of a horribly inferior platform to make an obviously greater platform even greater for the user.
Lord Method Man
Android has pretty much built itself on pretending to be an OS that it isn't. This is nothing new.
tsupersonic
Don't see the point. Widgets display more information - rather than an unread email count, I want to see actual unread emails. Rather than have a link to a browser, I want a widget of bookmarks - click and go. Rather than a calendar tile, I want a widget to display all my meetings for the day. I think you get the point... True, but what I also don't want to do is keep swipping side to side between different grids. I don't really care what actual new emails I have I just what to know that i have one. I want 1 screen where I can just at one glance know what's happening. The calender title does show me the latest upcoming appointments. Another great app I use is called "missed call messenger"... it sends a missed call email to your Gmail when you miss a call. Just this morning I was down stairs on my desktop and a new Gmail email popped up on the bottom of my screen saying "Missed call" .. I was like "Where is my phone?" .. it was upstairs on the couch. I called this person back 1 min after missing their call. Also works great if you forget your phone in a pants, pocket or in the car in the garage. One day I was sitting on my couch with the phone next to me but I had forgot to turn the volume backup. Then on my couch computer I got a "Missed call" email. I was like "WTF the phone is right next to me" .. but yes it was turned down. I would have never known someone had called for a few hours after had this not just told me. My phone display the list of events from my calendar with a clock showing at the top of the screen. Not notification bar clock.. My notification bar is hidden and dock is disabled. The apps icons are hidden so I can use swipe gestures for apps. :D
techbeck
Never tried it and doubt I will. If I want my phone to look like WP I would just go buy and use a WP device.

adrynalyne
He was implying Android copies from everyone. What OS doesn't? They all borrow aspects of those before them, and even current competitors. While it would be nice to have some 100% unique products out there, this simply does not happen. Its like that TED video. Everything is a remix.
Aergan
Thanks Warwagon, I'll give it a go on my Xperia Z1. I really got on with the interface on my former Lumia 800.

That's the beauty of Android - customize it to your likes. Can't think of any other mobile OS's that allows you to change the launcher (functionality + looks) as easily as Android does. The WP interface wouldn't work for me - not enough information at a quick glance. If I can swipe once or twice, I can have a plethora of information rather than having to delve into each individual app. BTW, my Android calendar widget shows appointments for more than one day, I can go up to a week, plus view the month view of calendar (as well as go to other months). I can also add appointments from the widget, without even having to enter the calendar app - talk about efficiency/speed.This is super handy. I just use Google Voice. It sends an email to my Gmail for missed calls...

+Warwagon MVC Posted December 4, 2013 Author MVC Share Posted December 4, 2013 you read that wrong :p .... case i said, not launcher ha.... Oh in that case because it's built like a brick shithouse! Watch the video I'll admit it does sadden me to have to put such a think clunky case on such a thin beautiful phone. On the flip side it is an investment I would like to projector. Seeing how it's both not insured and out of contract. $220 on eBay
