Bryan R.
I wear glasses. I may be looking for new frames and these Gunnar frames look pretty nice. I'm curious though if anyone uses these and notices any real difference? I won't pay too much attention to their marketing videos as clearly they're touting "tech" that may not really be all that special. I'm looking for real world application. Any reviews or thoughts about them are appreciated. http://www.gunnars.com/
fusi0n
Here are some pretty good reviews.. http://www.amazon.com/PPK-00101-Advanced-Glasses-Headset-Compatibility-Pc/product-reviews/B004FN1AES/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?showViewpoints=
Bryan R.
Their prescription lenses are pretty expensive too. Apparently, at first I was looking at just standard lenses for people who just don't want strain on their already perfect eyes :(
p0welly
Id be interested in this too, but all the reviews have seen have been a little too positive if that makes sense, doesn't really seem genuine. I should point out, that since ive been suffering a bad back, ive been getting up and walking about every hour for 5 mins and my eyestrain headaches have pretty much gone. so save yourself ?100 and get off your ass! :-)

HawkMan
the short answer, yes, the long answer: yes they are, but they'll give everything a crappy yellow tint for your cash :sarcasticthumbsup: f.lux will give you all the benefits and negatives of Gunnars for free though. cooky560 Veteran Posted November 20, 2013 Veteran Share Posted November 20, 2013 As will simply adjusting the "tint" setting on your monitor
spaceelf
I've got a pair here but they're not my prescription so I don't use them very often, sure as hell make my eyes feel better tho. Been doing some long Warframe and Battlefield 4 sessions so I think I'll clean em off and use em again.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted November 20, 2013 Veteran Share Posted November 20, 2013 Yep, a gimmick. Last time a thread about these came up I called them "yellow pieces of plastic". I was told I was wrong, that they weren't plastic, they were a polymer :laugh.

I've noticed most people who haven't tried em dismiss em outright. *shrug* The tint is actually fairly light. I'd get a prescription pair if I had free cash, but I don't. Adjusting the tint and brightness of your monitor to a not-the-fricken-sun setting, or using f.lux will give you the same benefits as the Gunnar's. As for the tint and f.lux setting, it will also ruin through picture the same way
HawkMan
Best bet is to just set your brightness and contrast to correct setting, no that's not 100, in fact it's a lot closer to 50 than a 100, on some monitors it might even be below

As for the tint and f.lux setting, it will also ruin through picture the same way I don't need or want the effect unless I'm gaming, so that's kind of pointless. And I have yet to see any picture ruining effect.
HawkMan
the yellow tint is pretty picture ruining if you care about PQ and correct colors. you can run f.lux only when gaming, and a lot of monitors have a special gaming mode where you can set contrast, brightness and tint for it. Also when gaming is probably when you least need Gunnars/f.lux and such.
spaceelf
My monitors gaming mode pumps the brightness up to obscene levels. Not entirely happy about that.
HawkMan
you should be able to adjust the settings of the gaming mode.
