PS4 Firmware 1.52

Thanks for the update.  Mine isn't being shipped until friday so I am hoping by the time I actually get it the servers will be good, though I am going to download it just in case.

It's included on the game discs, BTW

I got KZ:SF yesterday, do you know if it is on that?  I remember with my PSP (OG) many games would come with the 1.5, 1.51, 2.0, 2.01 updates depending on requirements.

I may have read wrong.  Kotaku is doing a review of the PS4 and games today, mentioned an update being on disc.  But I think it was 1.06 (???) and they have a separate thread about being able to get 1.50 on USB.

The PS3 also shipped the latest update (at the time) with each game so you could update it.  Whether the launch games will include 1.50 depends on when the game was finalized IMO.

1.50 will probably be short-lived and a newer patch will be released shortly after, which is usual.

Okay, yea I have decent internet so downloading isn't an issue, I downloaded the 1.5 update from here just in case.  I just wasn't sure if KZ would have it on it or not.

Yea I guess I remember my PS3 doing that, however more so it happened if I tried to access the PS Store (even though it was just a website).  That's true, it depends on both 1.50's sign off and game sign off.   I would assume 1.50 is kind of like the launch version.. followed up very soon with a 1.51/2 when the masses start using and breaking it.

So the day one patch for the ps4 is 300mb vs the 500mb for the x1.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised both are relatively small. I was expecting sizes closer to 1GB, but maybe that is what neither console has all features supported even in the day one patches, to space out the sheer amount of data needed to be downloaded day one.

The PC to USB download is 901mb, but that's probably a full image, not the update. Oh well, I'll download it and throw it up on skydive. I have a feeling I'll have better luck doing that than I will trying to update on launch day. Thanks Microsoft :p

Wait, MS has a link to download the patch? I missed that. Where is it at?

Later today, the next system software update for PlayStation 4 (version 1.51) will be available. With this minor required update, stability of system software has been improved. In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced.

In the North American region, automatic downloads for system and game updates are enabled by default when PS4 is in stand-by mode. Once system software update 1.51 is available later tonight, your PS4 will automatically download it, enabling you to update quickly and easily.

Turned on mine this morning and it popped up right away.

  • 3 weeks later...

A new system update for PlayStation 4 is available to download now, Sony has announced.

Details on the 1.52 update are still vague, but a tweet from the firm yesterday confirmed that it would "improve system software stability".

The update will automatically download if auto downloads have been enabled and the PS4 has been left in standby mode. Otherwise, users will be prompted to download the update when they next connect to PlayStation Network.

Apparently this update comes after Xbox updated the One yesterday.

Sadly no great details and over at the PS Forums people are upset there's no notes on what this update does. But, seems to not break anything.

Happy to see them pushing forward. I got this update without issue, but I haven't noticed any changes yet. Will play around with it more to see if anything obvious shows up.

I have to wait until after work but some people are saying that the system is much snappier loading the menus. For example, while in a game pulling up the dashboard seems quicker.

Hopefully there actually was some performance boost upgrades.

Everything I have read seems to point to performance and general stability improvements.  According to rumors DLNA/MP3/Etc support will be coming Mid-January, and this update may also contain supports to make that update smoother.
