Installing Windows 7 with an external screen

Recommended Posts

My old laptop's screen is damaged to no repair and I am using an external one connected with VGA.

After some years I decided to format and install Windows 7 but because it is an external screen, the Setup screens won't show on the external screen. I can successfully boot from the DVD right to the first setup screen of Windows 7. (I can see it because there are some areas of the damaged screen that show the blue background)

I tried everything including [FN] key + F4. Nothing.

I have thought of another possibility. Create an unattended Windows installation disc from the original I have. To make all setup steps automated. Now, this is the first time I am going to make an unattended disc. Do you guys think it's a clever idea? As I see it, it can even automate the formating of the HDD..

Let me know your thoughts!
