Delete empty folder from Gallery

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the Nexus 5 and after setting it up I noticed that I have an empty folder called "1579684460" in the Gallery app. The folder is empty but I can't deldete it. I can select it, press the bin icon, confirm I want to delete the selected item, but it doesn't go away.

I tried searching for that folder through the device with the apps "ES File Explorer" and "Total Commander", yet both of them cannot find the folder.

Would anyone know how I can get rid of this empty folder?

Many thanks!!

Check to see what sync settings it has, maybe it's shared like Sonne mentioned, or try downloading file manager from play store, see if it can delete it.

Failing that, try via a connection through usb to your computer?

I tried connecting to the Nexus 5 via USB and searched it for that folder, but I cannot find anything.

Also checked out the Picasa website, but I only have two folders there. An AutoBackup and the Instant Upload, which is empty. I cannot delete the Instant Upload folder from Picasa. I read on forum from Google that recently it has been switched to a system folder and thus cannot be removed.

Would you have any other ideas? I guess I could simply reset the phone again, but was hoping to avoid that, as I just finished setting it up a couple of days ago.

I also checked my Nexus 10 Tablet, where the pictures are synched with the online Picasa albums. On there I am not showing the same empty folder, so it is probably something locally. Does anyone know of a way to find this folder on the mobile? Would you need root access to be able to see everything?

very odd indeed, I still think the folder stored in the cloud somewhere, its the only thing that would explain not being able to see it via a file manager or not being able to delete it...maybe a G+ album folder?

Does it have an icon on the folder? If it's Picasa, it will have a Picasa icon in the bottom left. Same with other services that sync there like G+ I believe (though I have none so I'm not positive on them all). Does it just have a simple folder icon? If so, it's local. You have a bunch of ways to find it. You can install an app like ES File Explorer and look for it. You could install a terminal emulator and do a search for the folder like "find / -name "1579684460"".

May need to bite the bullet and reset your phone.  Then install apps one by one until you find the app that is creating the folder.

As far as having root to see all files, I think you need to or else you cannot see the main/root folder and file listings.  i could be wrong tho as I never tried accessing the file system when I wasnt rooted.

Was thinking the same thing about Picasa...but Picasa wouldnt call the folder name 1579684460.  At least I have not seen Picasa call it that.

The folder actually has a a folder icon in the bottom left corner, so I guess that means it is a local folder on the phone.

Thanks for the hints, I'll try and see again if I can find the folder locally. Otherwise I think there isn't much left for me except to reset the device again.

Thanks very much!!

Hi,

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I am having the exact same issue with my Nexus 5. The empty gallery folder cannot be deleted with the trash function and it's not visible if I connect to the phone with a USB cable. My empty folder begins with the digits "167" and, like yours, is ten digits long. The folder appeared in my gallery less than a week ago.

Regards,

Joe

same here with nexus 5. there seems to be no documentation on it. but I got turned on to quickpic and I use that instead of gallery. it lets you hide folders. google is trying to push people to G+ based photos app and soon gallery wont be there.

Hello,

First off, are you rooted?

If you are and you don't mind, Ill Teamviewer into your phone and see if I can find something related and using a .nomedia fix it for you :)

Just PM me if you wish :)
