What games are you looking forward to the most?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I haven't felt as happily geeky since the run-up to last gen's launches. It's an exciting time to be a gamer! I fondly remember being a sophomore in high school before the PS3 launch and just going nuts reading and commenting incessantly about the dawn of a new gaming era. I even kept a post I made here in Neowin which was later removed by DirtyLarry because it spawned several flame baiting threads and comments. Crazy times.

I'm a little older now but still look forward to getting my PS4 next week. I've been somewhat removed from the scene lately, but I've been trying to catch up during the past few days on the launch titles. Unsurprisingly, somewhat underwhelming. Since I'm sure you guys are more knowledgeable in the matter, I'd like to know which releases you're excited about.

Just as a little blast to the past and some insight for those who were too young to actively participate in the community back when the previous generation launched, here's the snippet from May, 2006 (rampant fanboyism has been a thing for quite a long time, as you can see):

You know, there is a lot of Sony bashing on these forums! It's amazing. I'm not talking about this specific thread, I just mean in general. Microsoft fans are really getting annoying. They herald the doom of Sony, that Playstaion 3 will fail because they have the almighty Halo. Hehe, I mock their ingenuity..they seem oblivious to the fact that Gran Turismo 3, for one, has sold more copies than Halo and Halo 2 *combined* (source). They ignore the fact that to this day, Playstation 2 sales in US are competitive with Xbox 360 sales (source), and that in Japan, Xbox 360 is selling under 3,000 units a week on average (while Playstation 2, half a decade after its launch, is selling over 30,000) (source).

All this goes to say: Sony is fine, and it will be for time to come. Sony, I'm waiting for you. Give me Metal Gear Solid 4. Give me Final Fantasy XIII. Give me Gran Turismo 5, give me Heavenly Sword. Give me next generation versions of The Getaway, God of War, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts, SOCOM: Navy SEALs, Devil May Cry. Give me more Onimusha, more Resident Evil. Give me a Blu Ray player, give me a true media center. Gime me..more fun.

The Getaway ended up being a not-so-great IP, Tomb Raider and SOCOM sort of died off. Onimusha is no longer, and Kingdom Hearts has been annoyingly AWOL. I know these are now relics of a bygone era; what games are we waiting for this turn at bat?

Well for me, the first game that really interests me on the ps4 is Infamous Second Son.

After that, there isn't much else as far as exclusives go. I'm just waiting to here what they have in store.

Multiplatform wise, Destiny has my eye, but I don't know enough about it yet to know if I must have it.

Oh and your quote is ironic since this time around, you could swap the names of the companies and the games and it would still apply

For me.. I am looking forward to:

Destiny
Drive Club
The Crew
Killzone: Shadow Fall
WatchDogs
Infamous: Second Son
Diablo 3 (have it on pc, want it on console)

There are more, and I realize some are cross platform, and I am sure there will be some in the coming years that are yet to be announced.  However, thats my list off the top of my head.   Already have Killzone, just waiting on my PS4 now (Amazon emailed to say it should ship tomorrow).

Can you PM me the source for that quote? That first paragraph is the kind of thing I'm looking for around the gamer's area. Someone that can make a post and back it up with their sources before being asked. Brilliant. (Y)

On the subject of gaming, two titles I'm waiting for on the Playstation are Watch Dogs and GTA5. Neither will be exclusive, but I'm hyped from the talk that the guys who have been playing GTA5 on the current generation consoles have been talking, and the looks at Watch Dogs have me very interested.

Aside from those, however, I don't have much of an idea other than what to expect from Sony's exclusives.

Diablo 3 (skipped it on the PC because of always on and the auction house, now those are fixed I look forward to playing coop with the girlfriend)

I'm looking forward to Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 A LOT as well but I'll almost certainly get those on PC (from GoG)

Wish I could! Thread was deleted. I took it from the amazingly nice and detailed PM DirtyLarry sent me explaining the reasons for the moderating decision.  It's the only time I've had a thread closed down on me (it really got out of hand), but it was easily my favorite Neowin experience. The mod was so amazingly earnest in apologizing for the decision, it just felt like a nice touch! But I'll try to participate a little more around here in this fashion :)

After reading these comments I looked up Watch Dogs and it definitely seems like one to watch out for!

For now indie titles that do something a little different, and Resogun. Going forward infamous second son and Dark Souls 2.... Oh wait, that's current gen :p

MGS most likely, and whatever Naughty Dog are working on.

Got a feeling GT6 is going to be really slick, like what GT5 should of been. May be a little overlooked coming this late, but it is Sony's largest selling franchise ever I believe.
