Randolph
Hey. I recently acquired a iPhone 4 off eBay with iOS 6.0.1 still on it. I've had iOS 7 before but I decided to hold down iOS 6 for as long as possible because I feel like on the 4's hardware, its just too slow and laggy. My issue seems to be with iMessage. its working fine for my friend who has iOS 7.0.3 but anyone else its not. Anyone else running 6.0.x and having iMessage issues? Yes I am aware I should upgrade and such, but I will stick with 6 for as long as I can lol.

From what I've heard, there are overwhelmingly several apps you won't be able to use on iOS 6, or it's that you won't at least get the latest versions that came on iOS 7 due to the UI being completely rewritten, that's my guess. You'll be able to stay on iOS 6, and iMessage isn't a worry, but I think it's gonna be desperate to ask you to upgrade in the long run.

Yeah but the point of my post is to ask if anyone else is running iOS 6 and having iMessage issues? I wanted to upgrade to 6.1.3/6.1.4 (forgot which version was the last) so I could have the latest "6" firmware but apparently I can't do that because they aren't (Apple) signing the files anymore. :/

But you'll need to make sure it's the file version that works with your specific phone. :)

It makes me wonder if..WAIT, WAIT..what if he were to use an older version of iTunes and upgrade the phone offline with the IPSW file? Although, that still wouldn't work due to online signing, right? Randolph
yeah this is what happens when i try to do the shift + restore method via the latest iTunes on Windows 7 32 bit :/ i was hoping someone would know a work around for this but its seems highly unlikely. neo1911
^^ Try different USB port. Also make sure your downloaded ipsw is relevant for your device. ipsw for CDMA will not work for GSM model and vice versa. Also make sure you have installed the latest version of iTunes. Yes, as I stated already, I have the latest iTunes. And it doesn't get much clearer then 'iPhone 4 for verizon = CDMA' lol.

User6060
i have iOS 6 and my iMessage works fine. iMessage issues usually get fixed by signing into and out of icloud I'm staying on iOS 6 for as long as possible.

You can't restore iOS 6, you can't upgrade to 6.1.*. You can do one of two things: - Get a clean install of the current build by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Content - Restore to 7.0.
vanx
I'm happy as Larry with 6.1.4 on my iPhone 5 and 6.1.3 on iPad 3 and have no immediate reason to upgrade to iOS 7. Once more apps start to demand that I upgrade to that version to be eligible for app updates, I will think about it. Randolph 1 Share
