Passive gel cooler for laptop?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

In winter, I put on thermal sheets on my bed and it generates enough heat that my laptop usually gets hotter than summer. So hot, that the laptop considerably slows down and YouTube has trouble loading the site.

To counter this, Im thinking about getting a passive gel cooling pad. This was I can stay covered with the thermal sheets in my bed, put the gel pad on my thighs, and put the laptop on top so it can stay a bit cooler.

I dont even know where to start to look or what brands are out there. Can someone please help me?

Thank you

The product I have is quite old, they don't make it anymore, but Thermaltake is a good name in cooling. I can suggest this:

This is not gel/aluminum, but is another good choice:

It keeps a barrier between your lap and laptop. It does have a fan in it, however, but it is whisper quiet.

This looks good :) Lets see if I can find it it buy it...

The shipping on this product is VERY expensive and it its about 600 grams. I mean, come on....

Ill problably order it online, send it to the states and have it sent back here. Its just ridiculous.

This one is for a 15" but my laptop is 15.4", it should be compatible right?

With laptop bags it is ok, I'd expect the same result here too.

Edit: on the specs it says "Dimensions: 13.8? W x 11.8? D x .4? H". If you are unsure, just take measures from your laptop and compare if it differs much.

Didnt look at that.

My laptop is:

14.0551" W x 10.1575" D x 1.45669" H

Might have to get with the 17", problem its a bit oversized but oh well...

Sounds to me that you are fine if you don't mind it going a tad over the edges. The laptop probably has some footing 2-3cm away from the edge so it should stay on it fine. However I have never used one so take this with a grain of salt... it might be nice to have some edge to get a grip from at the edges, which it wouldn't have on the sides.

I have 17" laptop that is for primary home use.

I have 15" laptop that is for travel.

I have another 15" for beta testing.

Plus 3 more in the closet.. one of windows laptops has similar iMac's screen resolution..

Don't worry about the size... if you need it for travel bag,  get a 15" laptop or get one of the tablets. Keep 17" laptop at home.

:D
