Yup I like it a lot. Too bad they had to put the piece of ###### that is the Start Screen on top of it.

If the Start Screen didn't exist, I think Windows 8.1 would be the perfect Windows experience. The Desktop part is a pleasure to use

Nope, too flat and ugly, still can't change font, or use dark themes because the window font color doesn't change making it unreadable.

Love the other improvements over 7, but the desktop and metro will keep me using Windows 7.

I don't mind it too much once the titlebars are brought down to a sensible size. That said the theme does look somewhat Whistler-ish. Wonder what Windows 9 will bring - the return of Luna?

I like the new desktop UI too, but I wish Microsoft could have kept Aero glass and classic in Windows 8, just for more personalization choices.

I like it a lot now, and find it nearly impossible to go back to windows 7.  I do have to admit, for nearly a year I avoided using Windows 8 merely out of bias colored by internet opinion and "RAWR! IT"S NEW DON'T LIKE!", and there were some legitimate issues I had with it as well, but 8.1 solved pretty much all of that.

The "ribbon" is terrible, just a jumble of icons/text, luckily it can be minimized. Then you have the random "drive tools" just floating on the title bar in a colour that does not fit in.

I have zero problems with it.. I'm not a fan of the style either, but I've yet to see a desktop OS with a visual theme that I've liked out of the box enough where I didn't fiddle with it. 7 was the same way, good but needed tweaking, had to get rid of that pastel blue stuff all over the place plus a few other minor tweaks here and there.  Poll needs an "It's ok but I'm not going to gush about it" option.  Visuals aside, just as productive as before, maybe throw on a start menu replacer if that floats your boat, but still prefer it to the alternatives by a wide margin.

Is that preview image that you've posted the default color scheme?

I like that they moved to square corners and flatness (in most instances). I don't like that they sacrificed contrast in some cases, like getting rid of shadows.

I like the new desktop a lot, but I wish they would have gone further with the METRO-fication.

I would have liked to see more modern icons.

There is a nice example floating around on The Verge forums

I changed it to be more balanced

Not a balanced poll. I don't love it but I am okay with it. Aero glass and the previous style were getting dated. It was time to move on to something else and they did.

Didn't like it at first, but after a few days of using Windows 8 full time, I started to like it. :) The only problems I have with it is, the fact that the taskbar is semi-transparent, which is kinda inconstant from the rest of the Ul and the fact they randomly decided to remove a ton of networking features from the Ul.

I like it. I just wish Microsoft allowed the desktop UI to be more customizable. That is, being able to add/create more visual styles without using a 3rd party tool like UxTheme.

I dont care for it much.  Looks like a 2yr old put the start screen together IMO.  I do not care for the ribbon menu's either.  Never liked them in Office either.  To big and takes up to much screen.  Yea, you can minimize them but thats not the point.

I miss the drop shadow. Other then that, the desktop UI style is fine.

This pretty much sums up my experiences as well. It's a usable UI, but coming from one of the - if not the - best software development house in the world, I expect more. Custom themes to work properly, not having to hunt and peck for network UI options that were previously easy to find, and I wish I had more options - like to display drop shadows!

I picked "It's OK" because it's not a monstrosity and for the most part works well enough, but it could be so much better.

Microsoft didn't really need to remove the classic and aero glass theme. Windows xp retained the classic theme for those who liked it better than luna. Removing aero glass and classic really eliminated choices for users and really nothing else. I like the new windows 8 theme and have no gripes about it, but I like the aero glass theme more.

Ribbon UI: Fine, useful

"Flat" Theme with excessively large borders: Absolutely hideous, thankfully easy to fix

Lack of Aero: Disappointing, also easy to fix

Otherwise it's not that different from Windows 7 now I installed startisback, Bigmuscle's glass plugin, "Tinywindowsborders" from WinAero to reduce the border size, and the less hideous release preview theme that isn't "flat".

As it is out of the box however? Pretty horrid.
