Xbox One - UK - chances of walk-in and buy on Friday

Recommended Posts

What does everyone think the chances are of walking into Game and buying an Xbox One on Friday?

I read an article earlier where Microsoft apparently claimed there'd be plenty to go around, but their own online store is out of stock!

I foolishly haven't preordered and thought I'd just take my chances.

Thanks

Might be best (if you can) is to head to a Supermarket like Asda or Tesco that opens 24 hours an hour or two before midnight to see if you can grab one there?

It'll also depend on where you are based, as I find where I am based, you don't have too many die hard gamers who would go out/queue for a console so I'm sure if stores haven't used all their pre-orders up there would be stock for people who haven't pre-ordered.

Online is where everyone goes now so I'm not surprised that it's hard to find it and that it's sold out online.  But from what I heard with the PS4 in the US, if you knew where to look at retail you could/can find it, it was never sold out 100% (it showed in the online flipper price to since it was going for $450-$500 on average).   I can't speak for the UK, but if you try a few different retail places you could find it.

Good luck.  If online sales are out, then chances are finding them in store on launch day will be difficult.  I also heard stores will have a hard time stocking them do to demand.

I got in on the 2nd round of orders and mine is set to be delivered Jan 2nd.  A little over a month after the release but that is fine.  I have games to finish on the 360 anyway.

I suppose it depends what part of the country you're in.

Where i'm from, i'm pretty confident that i'd be able to walk in and pick one up. As it isn't a big place.

Give a few places a ring and see if they'll be getting stock in and if there are any available to pre-order.

I bet some places though will hold some back to have the shelf on launch day. To get people in the shop.

Game basically said there's no point in queuing up at midnight because all of their stock is reserved for people who have preordered.

Asda said 'we don't know what's happening' - helpful, thanks!

Tesco couldn't comment on individual stores either.

So I'll probably have to wait a few weeks before I can find one!

I swear GAME said they had stock for both pre-orders and those who turn up on the day? This was via their Twitter so they didn't mention specifics/numbers.

I queued for my 360 in a 24/7 ASDA superstore, so you should definitely give them a try. I don't see why they wouldn't have them. Just make sure it's one with a pretty substantial entertainment section and not one with a couple of CD racks :P

From a conversation I overheard in my local game, stores have been pre-selling their launch day stock over the past couple of weeks :(.

It says "Xbox One Day One Editions sold out quickly - but guess what? We have a limited amount available to buy tomorrow!" - the bloke in store said he didn't think it would be worth the effort queuing up 'cause they're all for preorders or reserved.

My Asda has a pretty decent entertainment section so I might give it a ago.

Cheers

I'd take everything a GAME employee says with a pinch of salt. My friend is in a similar position as you and he visited our local GAME (which is a new store, only opened about 4 weeks ago). Apparently they have stock for Friday, so he pre-ordered one but the fact that they said to him the console doesn't come with a headset. The fact that their employees don't know what is in the box (as all Xbox One Consoles come with the basic headset) I wouldn't count on them telling him they have stock is true either.

Maybe they're just trying to avoid the backlash of telling people they're in stock when they're clearly going to be of very limited availability.

I just don't want to queue up for ages with everyone collecting their preorders if there's no even any for sale!

Apparently Game is selling some 'epic bundles' (?500+) at midnight tonight, but I can't be bothered to go and queue up just in case there's already a queue and I can't get one. Just going to have a wander in tomorrow and see if there's any left. I doubt there will be. If not I'll just order one.

Tesco should be a good bet as they've said they're getting plenty in, at least my local one is, and of course they're largely 24 hour stores

Only Tesco Extras. My nearest is 40 minutes away.

Might be worth trying some of the less likely places like Comet/PC World - they do have entertainment sections, but it's not generally the first place gamers think of going.  I managed to pick up a PS3 60gb Fat (with b/c) at Comet when everywhere else had been sold out for weeks.

I looked around Liverpool last night and pretty much all the big shops (HMV/Game/Debenhams etc.) had nothing out to play - any machines in display cases didn't have pads attached.  Might just have been to stop massive queues developing, but could have been lack of stock.  Either way I can't afford one this month!!

Good advice but give Comet a miss. They went into admin almost a year ago :p

I did the same as you and bought a 360 on launch night from a newly opened Comet near me. They didn't even have a pre-order list, but I did have to camp out in the freezing cold (N)

LOL, what I meant to say was Curry's - always did get those two mixed up! :D

(you'd think it would be easier for me now that one of them doesn't exist anymore - nope!)
