The only downside appears to be that the combat does not evolve enough during the progress of the story.

The game itself looks amazing, interesting story etc.

But it's WAAY too short. Good scores.

Such a shame because i absolutely love the time period. With a game like this though you absolutely have to nail the combat and from day one I dont think anyone has been truly convinced.

I really wanted this game to be good, but i have to admit, I saw this coming. Pretty much all Crytek games are meh.

I think it's more to do with the troublesome development, starting off as kinect only, from EG

Nasty, brutish and short, Ryse: Son of Rome has emerged from a seven-year development hell as a visually resplendent, preternaturally dumb action game that exhibits a galling, monotonous bloodlust.

the general consensus seems to be that its too repetitive. i personally like these types of hack and slash games, and considering how great the game looks, i think its a good buy. i will be playing this tomorrow.

i can't remember the site but one reviewer said he basically pressed the buttons and didn't bother with the left side of the controller as it didn't do anything, i think he said it was basically a big quick time event,

Kotaku: Ryse, Yes. Shadow Fall, No. /boggle

Honestly, I'm not surprised the reviews are low, but after playing all of the non-sports games for the PS4 over the last week, it is increasingly, disturbingly clear how many double-standards there are, and how far off most review outlets are. Knack is a wonderful game, and Shadow Fall was great. Single-player wise, it's wholly better than Ghosts and BF4. Multiplayer wise, it's, at the very least, as good as both of them. Yet, both [Knack, KZ] were critically panned. Whenever I do get around to getting an Xbox One, I'll definitely check out Ryse. Hopefully by that time it will be a "greatest hits" title and be super cheap. (since it's a launch title and should sell well enough)

I guess people will just have to wait a while longer for a sequel, spiritual or otherwise, to Shadow of Rome (a little known PS2 gem).

I wonder if Knack was correctly priced it would review better? Sorry but $60 for the title is a joke. It may be a decently long game, but it's repetitive. The co-op looks quite fun, main reason I wouldnt mind it. With Tearaway at ?20, and Puppeteer at ?30, Knack at full price is stupid. It should of launched at ?30/$40 tops.

IMO Puppeteer really should of been a PS4 launch title, such a shame to see that game fail when it comes to sales when it's such a refreshing and well reviewed title.

Kotaku reviews have been a little strange, saying 'NO' to the consoles when they review for the hardcore is mindboggling. Every hardcore gamer is going to want at least one of them for the holiday season. We've had our current consoles for 7~8 years, get a grip Kotaku.

Btw here is the DF frame rate test

I agree with you. I think $60 for Knack is too much. Though, the game is actually quite long even on normal. But hard and very hard takes a bit longer. And the co-op mode is cool. I think $40 would have been a better price. Though, I technically got it half off with Amazon's BOGO deal for PS4 preorders.

To be fair, the marketing hasn't been great either. I couldn't tell you anything about Tearaway other than who makes it (and I only know that because of the topic you created yesterday). They both seem to be forgotten about amongst the big releases this year and all the marketing towards next-gen. If both were coming to PS4 they'd at least get more press attention that way.

As for Knack, to me is Sony trying really hard to create a mascot for PS4. I know that's silly considering their approach to forcibly making mascots in the past, but it feels very public this time & it hasn't gone in their favour for once.

Not quite every one of them will be getting them right away this fall/winter. Some of them, such as myself, prefer to wait till they're cheaper, or have titles worth buying them for(something neither the ps4 or one has).

This was coming.  Crytek make awful but good-looking games.  Their ethos of graphics over gameplay doesn't do them any favours however they still manage to sell enough to keep going, somehow.

They're even getting a bit rusty there, at 9:24 on the DF video I posted on page 1 there's a dip to 20FPS for about 9 seconds. They should of completely scrapped the Kinect build and started over.

MS even tried to say no frame rate drops :/

I guess really the only thing that can be said is that launch games pretty much get a free pass.  Nobody really expects much from them due to being rushed on systems they've not had long with, and due to only having a few games available sell lots anyway.

At least we know in 2 years time the games on both consoles will be night-and-day different.

In particular I am very interested to see what Naughty Dog can do with PS4 and Turn 10 with Xbox One (ignoring the launch Forza...) in 2 years time.  A part of me is interested to see what Crytek can come up with at that time as well (for graphics only) but not however enough to buy another one of their games.

9 seconds out of 12 minutes. , frame rate is solid

and remember the DR3 analysis? the day one patch fixed the framerate. these are probably not even final builds anyways.

Did you watch the video? It often dips to 26~28.

As i expected, it looks like crytek should stick to making those pretty shooters. They're much better at that.

To be honest they are not great either.

Crysis games aint bad but they are definately not system seller quality. I enjoyed the first Crysis for what it was, a tech demo. But it would not make my top fps list.

The frame rate is rather disappointing, but it's probably not noticeable since this genre doesn't really require high rates. I would say frame rate is the least of the problems with the game.

you mean just like virtually any other vsynced 30fps game? unless the game is not taxing the system, this is the norm. watch all the other videos of vsynced games, they often dip a few frames. this doesn't make the framerate anything less than solid.
