Not So Classy

Recommended Posts

I would expect class from Mr Shuhei Yoshida.

I would not expect it from some faceless ###### they let control the hype machine for a bit.

Still Classier than MS with their Scroogled ads.

But not classier than MS dealings with Sony.

I think MS and Sony have a better relationship than MS and Google.  In fact probably the best relationship is still MS and Apple.

Fair enough, but still companies bash each other all the time.  For example all the Mac Vs PC Ads.

I'm still a bit taken that they went through with that. If Sony was more accurate saying they had more 1080p games than Xbox One, that would be fair and it would achieve their agenda.

edit: they actually did say that, I have no problems with that tweet because it's true. The scroogle one was playing dirty

That's true, but beyond the pr, Apple still works with MS and Sony works with MS on various things.  MS and Google not only spar with ads, they also don't work well together behind the scenes. I'm still shocked that Youtube app for the X1 was announced.

Um, so are people that are playing Forza 5 settling for 720p?

What about Ryse?  (Matching BF4's 900p res)

Or the third party games running at 1080p?

The implication is that the X1 is not capable of that resolution, which is incorrect.  I'm not saying this is unusual for pr though.  All these companies like to throw out barbs in the form of 'slick' pr even if its stretching the truth.

Sony was being truthful in the tweet  by saying why settle for 720P, why should you, its not 2007 anymore. Games now should not have native 720P at all, especially on these powerful 2013 next gen consoles.

That's a good point, no one should.  So in that context, this tweet had nothing to do with the X1 at all, just a shot at game developers I guess.

Although they could also be talking about last gen consoles like the ps3 and 360.

Its clearly not what they were talking about.  It was a slam against the Xbox One. They wouldn't have pulled it otherwise, or posted it on the X1's launch day.

But I Thought the ps4's mandatory 1080p requirement was causing frame rate issues.

I think the only game that has been confirmed to have fps issues was COD, not sure about the other 1080p games.  Remember, BF4 is 900p.  AC4 was getting a patch to go up to 1080p, but I haven't seen any comments on frame rate.

Also possible, but that's the thing about pr.  When you word it just right, you can kind of nudge people into thinking it means many different things.

Let's compare your example with Xbox One pre orders. Before those numbers caught up with the PS4 the Internet certainly made it look like an unanimous vote for the PS4 whereas next to no one would be getting an X1(now we know there's that 10% gap between both machines). The people who care about the games will just play the games, we can safely say those also include the majority of the consumers which make up those pre-orders. They're not going to care about any of the technicalities because at the end of the day the game still fills whole screen.

This also proves why the console wars are so pointless, people will buy what games they want to play.

I don't see what the problem is. Seems like a pretty decent point. I guess we forgot how bad MS ripped Sony apart last gen (and for good reason).

And I suppose the PS3 and X360 should've been running full 720P native back when they launched? That was not the case honestly.

Game consoles, even with similar insides to PC's, still take time to get used to coding for the OS and drivers (which may not be fully mature yet).

They will get there for both systems.

Funny... MS, has actually been a good sport about all of this. Congratulating Sony and all (actually looking like they mean it).

From what I've seen from the One so far, Microsoft has no need to talk trash. And I believe the One will, be even better come spring/summer

What poor marketing.

If you're going to try and one up the competition. Don't say "almost every PS4 game". It doesn't really work.

Then again Microsoft are selling scroogled merchandise... that's classy 101.

Nothing unclassy about that.

Frist off it was only a tweet, not a billboard advertising campaign.

Secondly it didn't use any false information.

Thirdly and most importantly its right, we are in 2013, no next gen console should be running most games at 720p. It doesn't matter if its only just come out. This is a time where 1080p is the most common resolution, with 1440p and higher becoming pretty common. I find it hard to believe that these are the two consoles that are to be around for the next 4-6 years. Many pc gamers have been playing at 1440p 60 fps and higher for a year+ . This is a much bigger gap than at ps3/360's release time and it ****es me off because as a PC gamer, it feels like the only thing holding back the graphics in the majority of cross platform games if the fact the were developed with consoles in mind.
