progpass23
Microsoft sent out some Xbox One PR today to various outlets, you may have seen the numbers. Over 1 million Xbox One (our review) consoles sold within 24 hours! That?s pretty good, and far better than the Xbox 360 sold on its opening day, marking a new record for Microsoft. But let?s make sure to put the numbers in perspective. Sony?s PlayStation 4 also sold over 1 million units in 24 hours when it launched around a week ago. So far, the two console giants are neck and neck. However, there?s just one little detail Microsoft fails to mention in its PR: The Xbox One launched in a total of 13 countries, 11 more than the PlayStation 4. Sony?s console launched only in the US and Canada, and will roll out to more regions later on. The Xbox One, by comparison, launched in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, the U.K., U.S., and New Zealand. That?s a lot more territory to only match Sony?s numbers blow for blow so far. The PS4 won?t hit other major territories like the U.K. and Europe until November 29th. Unfortunately, we can?t draw too many conclusions from the numbers because Microsoft makes sure to mention the following: ?Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers.? So, with stock unavailable at ?most? retailers, the lack of additional sales could simply be a result of there being no cookies in the jar. People could want Xbox Ones but simply not be able to get them. Sony did not make a mention of selling out of its stock in its release. Also notable: The Xbox One retails for $100 more than the PS4 due to the inclusion of the Kinect motion sensor, so this amounts to more money for Microsoft at this point. I?m sure we can count on some fantastic sounding momentum numbers from both Sony and Microsoft in the days to come. But for now, they both appear to have at least some raw parity of sales numbers. Meanwhile, Nintendo has sold just over 3.9M Wii U units so far this year. http://techcrunch.com/2013/11/22/microsoft-matches-ps4-sales-with-1-million-xbox-ones-in-24-hours-but-takes-11-more-countries-to-do-it/

MindTrickz
So Xbox One sold 1 million in 24 hours in 13 territories versus the Playstation 4's 1 million in two territories? I can't say I'm surprised. Sony has the $100 cheaper, and superior hardware console and on top of that they have been riding the positive wave of PR since E3. I'm not sure how the number of countries is really relevant given that demand for both is far outstripping supply - they're both sold out so there's no potential for it to matter that one sold in more countries than the other. If Microsoft allotted all their consoles to NA, they would've sold 1 million in NA. Usually people rail on MS for only doing things in NA, and now its spin because they didn't do that  Also, lol @ WiiU ZakO, SecretAgentMan and vcfan 3 Share
Showan
A sale is a sale... I don't care how many countries it's in... I can do this too... The PS3 finally outsold the Xbox 360, but it needed ALL OF ASIA TO SURPASS MICROSOFT in total sales. See what I did there... You see, you are making the assumption that both companies manufactured equal amounts of consoles and that one decided to release theirs in NA only, while the other spread theirs in 13 territories. That is incorrect. Microsoft, like Sony, are in charge of deciding when and where their consoles will release first base on supply and demand, pre-orders etc, so Microsoft must have known that they could supply all 13 territories with enough consoles. Microsoft equaling Sony's 1 million in 24 hours in 2 territories, with 13 territories is something that should be noted. Especially when considering the price of the consoles and everything that transpired since E3.

The number of territories was based on who they could program Kinect for in time - remember they were initially going to launch in more territories and its not like they could've produced more consoles out of thin air for that. That would imply that Microsoft had 1 million units for 13 territories, since you are claiming it is sold out everywhere and that being the reason the Xbox's only sold 1 million in 24 hours in 13 territories. I highly doubt that. And my point still remains that the PS4 sold in only 2 territories sold as much as the Xbox One did in 13 territories. Yeah, the Kincet argument is BS, considering that some territories will first get Kinect localization in 2014.

Prosidius
The Playstation 4 would have outsold the Xbox One on launch day had Sony did a worldwide launch. Wouldnt surprise me to see the PS4 pick up another million units come next week. With that said I'm more impressed the Xbox One launch went so smoothly. Sony should learn from MS on console launches. MindTrickz
You have no idea what you're talking about... Yeah, I do. Again what you're forgetting is that the 1 million number being reported is how many units were SOLD, not shipped. There are still plenty of Xbox One's available. As far as I've read only the launch version sold out, there are still plenty of regular versions available on store shelfs in various territories. There is no way in hell Microsoft shipped 1 million units to 13 territories. Not possible.

GotBored
xbox is back outselling it in the u.s, and its outselling it in the u.k. what you initially said is incorrect. North America is the only place the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3 in total numbers (Outselling the PS3 for a month or two, doesn't matter much when its past prime selling points and its been a few years since release). Also current total global sales has PS3 more than 1 million sold consoles above the Xbox 360. But the Wii beats both by 20-21 Million. Anyway back to topic, looks like this generation of consoles is much more popular than last-gen. Both will sell well and we might see the PS4 sell as much as, if not more than the PS2.
