I was just thinking about my past online life and looking back at some of the sites/forums that I joined in my early years online, with Neowin being one of them. I got high-speed internet in the spring of 2003 and joined Neowin about a year later. I can remember lurking around for forums for a little bit before joining just to get a feel of what they were about, and then finally biting the bullet on a Saturday morning on the first of May in 2004. I distinctly remember that sunny Saturday morning siting in front of a small CRT and slow Pentium III in my pajamas joining the forums. Neowin had become one of my number one news sources for Longhorn and XP SP2 info, so I decided to join the forums. I defiantly have no regrets about joining; this is one of my favorite communities online.

I remember visiting Neowin as early as late 2000 as it was the best resource on Windows beta news back then. I do not however recall what made me sign up over 12 years ago.

  • 2 weeks later...

I remember, I was thrown into a cage, transported in a rusty old pick up truck and was told to sign up for Neowin or else I would be roast chicken. :p

I signed up originally as a longtime/experienced Windows user and wanted to become involved with discussing and sharing computer/Microsoft/technology things.

I remember when I first lurked this site for 2 years - 2001 to 2003 - before finally joining on August 4th, 2003. I remember that after making a few posts in here, I left for personal agendas then returned - a few members remembered me after my return lol.

Like it was yesterday...

I'd flirted harmlessly with Neowin for a couple of months. A review here, an editorial there. This beauty had caught my eye.

I put the name and address in my little starry book. It wasn't long before I came knocking. It started with some articles, and quickly digressed to reading comments, and finally fingering through forum topics.

I wanted more, but I remember being nervous. I wasn't really sure if I wanted to go that far. At least not right then, and maybe not with Neowin (even though it was great).

Then one day I got caught in a weak moment while reading a forum topic. It occurred to me that I'd done just about everything else there was with Neowin. A lot of other people were doing it too.

So, I signed up and posted. I posted hard :)
