Salem, Mass. -- The body of a popular Massachusetts teacher who police say was killed by one of her students was found in the woods, naked from the waist down and with her throat slit and a note that read, "I hate you all," according to court documents released Friday.

The search warrant application was released after requests by The Associated Press, The Boston Globe and other media organizations.

Philip Chism, a 14-year-old soccer player who moved from Clarksville, Tenn., at the beginning of the school year, is charged with murder, aggravated rape and armed robbery in the Oct. 22 death of 24-year-old Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer. His attorney said Friday she had no comment. He is being held without bail.

Police have not released a motive for the slaying.

A student whose name was concealed in the document told police that the day of the killing, she had stayed for extra help after class and heard Ritzer and Chism talking.

Ritzer mentioned Tennessee, and Chism appeared upset, but the teacher didn't appear to notice and kept talking about it. When Ritzer noticed he was upset, she changed the topic, but the student noticed Chism talking to himself.

According to the documents, surveillance video showed Chism putting on gloves and with a hood over his head as he followed Ritzer into a bathroom. The documents say he brought a box cutter, mask, gloves and multiple changes of clothing to school the day Ritzer was killed.

She was reported missing when she never returned home from school. Her body was found in the woods, partly covered in leaves, and police said it appeared to be sexually positioned. Authorities say she had been sexually assaulted with a stick.

Chism, who had been spotted at a movie theater after the killing, was found walking along a highway in a neighboring town around 12:30 a.m.

A police officer looked in his backpack and found a bloodstained box cutter, according to the documents. Asked where it came from, Chism replied, "The girl."

He also had Ritzer's credit cards and driver's license. He said he found them at a supermarket, then said he got them out of Ritzer's car.

Police questioned his mother, who told them that the family had recently moved from Tennessee and that it had been a stressful divorce.

UPDATE: it gets worse!

We may have a real-life Michael Meyers here....

Salem, Mass. -- The Massachusetts teenager charged with killing his math teacher appeared to be "psychotic" after he allegedly attacked a female clinician at a Department of Youth Services detention center in Boston earlier this month, according to court documents.

The documents, a request by the state Department of Youth Services to have 15-year-old Philip Chism undergo a psychiatric evaluation following the June 2 incident, were released Tuesday by a Superior Court judge in response to a motion by The Salem News.

Chism was armed with a pencil when he followed the woman into a staff bathroom and choked, stabbed, and punched her, according to authorities. The woman turned down medical treatment.

Chism was "out of touch with reality" and "yelling, screaming incoherently (and) foaming at the mouth while being restrained by staff," according to the psychologist-written petition to have him committed to Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital for 30 days of mental health evaluation and treatment.

He has not been charged in connection with the alleged attack on the worker.

His lawyer refused comment.

The documents also outline the security measures put in place at the Worcester facility, including constant one-on-one observation, with a male staff member even accompanying him to the bathroom.

Chism has pleaded not guilty to robbing, raping and killing 24-year-old Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer after following her into a restroom last October. He was 14 at the time and had recently moved to Massachusetts from Tennessee.

Supreme Court says they can't execute if the crime was committed before the age of 18. He was 14.

This is Tragic. I see two problems with this case. At 14 he is not mentally mature enough to be tried as an adult.  The other is that is very ill. Mental illness is sad and scary thing.

why not? he was mentally mature enough to make the decision to rape and murder another human being.

that's a tough one.   if she had sex with him consentually, he would be a minor, but since it sounds like he planned it out and he killed her, he's an adult.

I think the argument could be made that he wasn't mature enough mentally which is why this happened in the first place.

Michigan has tried murderers as adults as young as 11. It and many other states could technically go lower.

He's too young to legally execute, but at the same time, given this pattern of behavior, there's probably very little chance he'll ever be safe to release back into society.  It's a sad situation, both for the victim, and the family of the child.  Hopefully something can be done to get him to a point where he can at least be productive within the prison system.

This kid is clearly seriously mentally ill/disturbed, but you can't just execute him for that!  He's still a child after all!

I absolutely agree, though, that he should stay locked up for a long long time; at first in a mental institution where they can try to help him, and later, if successful, into a regular prison where he can pay for his crimes.  (Sick or not, you must still face punishment for your actions).
