Software to connect with a particular user on same network

Question

It's not a HUGE issue but important. I'm on a general network with my charter provider which makes my wife on the same network as I am, my daughter and so on to include my son.

The software I am looking for will allow my wife and I to connect through this software and I can navigate her system to putgame files in their correct place(s).

to be more direct here: I want to transfer some mods for Left 4 Dead 2 that I downloaded and she can't seem to locate in steams workshop. So we connect, I carry said files over to her system myself.

anyone know of such a software?

Thanks,

Chris

At the end of the first replay budman ;) :p

And @OP, if you want to learn more about possible solutions for transfering files between machines or remote management of a machine, by all means ask, I'm not trying to discourage you, just for all practical purposes for what you were trying to achieve - what I said above... ;)

Huh? Are you not in the same house as your wife and kids?

What does your isp have to do with anything?

"I'm on a general network with my charter provider"

Why can you not just use remote desktop or remote assistance? Are all your machines running windows? If you want to move some files around your network, windows file sharing works just fine, etc.

I am confused to your setup..

I'm on Win 8.1. My wife is Win7. Gabrielle my daughter is on surfaceRT with 8.1 and my son Win 7 desktop.

I have my wife and I setup for a workgroup but being non literate with PCs' I'd like to be able to access her system and put the files in their appropriate folder for steam in her left 4 dead 2 mod folder.

thanks a million. I'm hesitant unless, I can make her entire C drive accessible only to me to achieve this my self. but as of right now, I put the normal, pictures, document and those folders in share mode.

let me try that first. my network is secure so I feel safe about sharing her C drive and allowing me to do it myself.

Q: are there any inherent problem I need to be aware of doing this?

Your network is secure... based on what I've read from you in this thread I find it very difficult to trust your assessment of that! No offense intended.

You want to transfer a particular set of files to your wife's computer, so stick them on a damn USB pen drive and take them to it, or zip them up and email them, or use dropbox as mentioned above... You're over complicating this and wasting not only your own time but also our time trying to comprehend what on earth you're on about and describe solutions to you that you don't even need.

Was a post deleted or something, I don't see any mention of dropbox other than yours blazingangel. But yeah that is a good easy simple no brainer way for users that don't understand anything about networking or computers to share files..

Yes its quite possible to access the whole C drive of another computer on your network securely, but they were disabled for good reason ;) back in vista.. You can re-enable them with a simple registry entry, setting LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy to 1.. And can walk you through it, but dropbox might be a much easier way for you to copy files between machines.

Then just go to the machine and place them in the folders you want to place them, etc.
