"Xbox On" - Not working, but other commands do

Recommended Posts

I haven't run into that issue yet. Although I happen to be maybe 4 Ft away from Kinect when I'm turning it on.

Yeah I am only 5-6 feet away.. Kinect works fine with any other command, even with TV going, but dead silence and saying it loud, it ignores the command 4 out of 5 times.

I heard it might have to do with the standby setting, if you have it set to power saving then it won't work. (not an xb1 owner, just what I saw somewhere).

Power mode is set to "Instant On" and "Turn on XBox by Saying "Xbox On" is enabled.. If that setting was off or it was set to Power Saving it would probably never work.

So anyone else having trouble with "Xbox On" working? I have to say it like 5 times and loud to get it to turn the console on.

I am not the only one it seems also - http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/all-if-the-xbox-one-voice-commands-work-great-except-xbox-on.453542353/

same here I have tweeted XB support @XboxSupport1. Mine will not power up unless I am right over it and then sometimes it wont work either. After its on it works great, every voice command works to.  Anyway I have a vine video up of this issue. @mrdeezus. Xenodrome contact XB support at the twitter handle above. Hopefully its a software issue!

Could it be that the ambient noise level is actually quite high or there's a high power appliance next to the Kinect 2 ?

Negative, dead quiet when I try to use Xbox On. It works quite well with TV going on once everything is working.

Same issue here... im going to take my console back to the MS store. Turning it on by voice was the feature I wanted most and it doesn't work very frustrating....!!!

I had the same problem where I had to literally walk up to the damn Kinect and say "XBOX On". I finally re-calibrated it, but this time I turned up my receiver to a high volume and after I did that, it actually started working.

Mine won't turn on with the command either.

Actually when I calibrated it and it told me to turn the volume up I didn't have the remote handy so it was at a "normal" volume instead of loud.

Could that be why?  It's volume isn't adjusted right so you'd have to scream or something?

Crank it up as loud as you can, also, make sure your surround sound is on and configured as it would be when you're watching content, that will help out a lot.  After doing that, commands are more normal tone of voice and games/commercials that say xbox don't open up the guide anymore :)

Have you tried saying "Xbox turn the **** on!" ?

As a Kinect 1.0 owner, I can verify that the Xbox 360 at least responds to commands of that nature.

Only thing I've had trouble with is that I seem to have to actually be in front of the device for it to turn on. If i'm standing off to the side, it doesn't work. I don't know if it is using the camera to detect if someone is actually there or not, but it seems pretty consistent. I can stand off to the side and say it pretty loudly and it doesn't do anything. I can sit on my couch and say it quietly and it works immediately.

No problems on mine.  Tho, I think it is dumb to have to say "XBOX POWER OFF" and "XBOX ON"  Should either include or remove the POWER.

I think they are afraid "off" is too close to the sound of other words, so they used "power off" to make sure that nothing will cross-talk to it.

The devs found out that every time they got frustrated with a game and screamed "sod off!", their consoles powered down...
