Postal worker shot dead while delivering mail

Recommended Posts

A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was shot and killed Saturday night while on his rounds in Prince George?s County, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 7:20 p.m. in the Cheverly-Landover area of the county, said Officer Harry Bond, a police spokesman.

Apparently the man was delivering mail on or near Reed Street when the shooting occurred.

One resident of the street said he was returning home just as the carrier had finished placing mail into the letter box at his house.

He said the postal worker was not the regular carrier, and when he called to him, he did not respond.

The man took his mail and went into his house. Within minutes, the man said, he heard two or three gunshots.

When he looked out, he said, he noted that a Postal Service truck was near the corner of the street. But no carrier was to be seen.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has announced a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

I guess someone got nervous and figured he wasn't a real mail carrier but that is not excuse to kill him.

Wow... I am speechless. I hope they catch whoever killed the innocent man. Poor guy was probably doing a part time job on the weekend to make money :(
