Office Chair

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've had my current chair for about 6 years now and it is has a need to be replaced, I have a bit of sciatica and so I need something with alot of back support. Unfortunately my Wife wont let me spend that much on it and I am limited to between ?50 - ?100, I think this is enough to get a decent chair and some of the chairs I have in mind are below.

Can you suggest any?

I had that first chair!!!!

One fairly hefty fault - the bolts holding the arms on also hold the back upright.  And they don't go deep enough.

Cue me sat on the chair, lean back, arm springs off, back half falls down and I'm on the floor wondering WTF just happened.

Good mental gif, I'll scratch that one off the list then :D

I have a mesh chair from Staples.

But it's often half price, which is probably about right (when I got it I payed around ?85). I'd never buy a chair online though - no idea if it's going to be comfortable without actually sitting in it first.

That second chair looks awesome, however it also looks like one where the arms hold the base to the back in this image:

I bought one from Ikea 8 or 9 years ago, still using it, I would suggest considering one from there, I forget what mine was called, but it had a round base, it swivels a full 360degrees, and reclines, only modification I had to make to it, was I bought some MDF board to raise it slightly so it was more comfortable when sitting at my  pc desk

edit, sorry, it cost me about ?60 or ?70 at the time, and another ?10 for the MDF board

All the chairs are crap unfortunately unless you are willing to pay a lot of money for Steelcase, Herman Miller etc. I go through the cheap ones every 1-2 years and I'm not fat.

I have this chair and it's been recently been highly rated by sites that normally recommend $1000 chairs so that's a good indication

Also I have lower back issues and this chair is very comfortable for someone like me

Might be out of your range depending on sales and whatnot

That's actually the chair I want to replace, I've had it for years and it leans to one side and I think this isn't helping my sciatic issue. Thanks for posting though :)

I be had bad experiences with office chairs, usually the whole thing rests on two bolts which warp and break after a year or so. Ive switched to a proper lether recliner and haven't looked back.

Invest in one they're not that expensive and the extra space on the sides is great for the mouse
