(PS4) Questions about 24 Month extended warranty from Sony?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have two PS4's in my home and I use the same account when logging in on both.

Anyway I bought the 24 month extended warranty from the PS store on one of my PS4's. Then I went onto my other PS4 to buy the extended warranty for that also and when I went onto the PS store it would not let me buy it again. It said I already purchased it. I did purchase it but for the other PS4.

Can I use the same Protection Plan for both of my PS4's? Or do I need to purchase 2 Protection Plans for 2 PS4's? And if so how can I do that if it's not letting me?

Also when I bought the first Protection Plan it never asked me for the serial number so how would Sony know which PS4 the Protection Plan belongs to? Realistically couldn't I use the same Protection Plan for both of my PS4's?

Hmm, I think your best bet is to call Sony and confirm the details of the warranty.

My guess is that you cannot just buy one policy and it apply to both consoles. You might have to log into the console with another user account and then buy it. Or maybe the option simply was not built into the software yet and you need to straighten this out over the phone.

I think it is tied to the PSN account used to buy it, and that that psn account has to be the master account for that PS4.  I bought the extended plan on my PS4 (with the accidental.. my kids are destroyers of warranties).  I didn't have to give the serial number either.  I got an email a couple days later with legal stuff.. but I am not entirely certain how it works.  Also purchased via the ps store.

What country are you in, in most(or all) of europe that deal would be a scam as you would legally be covered for longer than that anyway.

It's not really a scam, even in the EU. Most of the EU has a 2 year "warranty" period, the UK has 6 years. It's not as easy, however, as saying "It's broken, fix it". You have to deal with the retailer, not Sony, and you'd have to, if they're being funny about it, prove that it was faulty at the point of purchase, not the moment when it broke.

The extended warranty offers 3 years protection, has the option (extra $10) of accidental damage cover, and means you call sony if it breaks without having to argue your case.

Even if it is covered under country warranty, you can still be forced to pay for the repair if Sony deemed it was your fault.  I have had that happen to me (In Canada), where my cell phone plastic screen guard (built in, not a touch screen) started lifting off.   Blackberry said I had pried it open and charged me 125$ to repair it.   I didn't have an extended warranty (but was still under 1 yr), and if I tried to fight it I would be sent my phone back with it not repaired.

Sometimes spending the extra money (In this case 60$) to have full coverage for the next three years.. regardless of what I do to it (drop it, spill water on it, throw it at someone) and have it fully repaired and working without having to pay.. I'm all for it.   Even if I don't break it, and it doesn't fail.. I still feel better knowing I had that protection in the event something did happen.

If they deem it's your fault it doesn't matter what warranty you have and if you bought it 30 minutes ago, it's still your fault and not covered.

Reclamation laws vary a bit across Europe though. In England it's 6 years but up to the consumer to prove it's a manufacturing(not wear and tear) fault. In Norway the reclamation time is 5 years and it's up to the manufacturer to prove it's not a covered fault. Basically all reclamation a here, at least on electronics, are covered as if it was warranty, simpler. So the actual rules differ in the details, but overall they're the same.

He's in the us anyway, consumers have no rights besides besides what they buy extra over there :/

As for the OP I think your only solution is calling. Most likely your warranty only covers one console. Their system just can handle people owning more than one because they screwed up and registered it on PSN account not box serial, which is a bad idea over all...

Update!

I just got off the phone with Sony and the very nice woman took care of my issue.

She was able to add a second Protection Plan using the same PSN account as I used for my first PS4. She needed the serial number on my second PS4. She did explain that when you get the Protection Plan though the PS store using the PS4 it automatically sees the serial number on that PS4. And there is indeed a limitation right now not allowing you to buy a second Protection Plan for a second PS4 using the same account though the PS store. So you need to call Sony in order to get more then 1 Protection Plan if you need it. Also the Protection Plan also covers the dual shock 4 controller and all cables that came with the PS4.

And last you can take advantage of the Protection Plan as many times as you need in the 3 year period,

I believe the policy you bought unless linked to a specific console will serve either, but you will have to contact sony to confirm, and I believe you will have to buy a second policy if you want to cover both consoles.

Glad to see that Sony took care of you.
