Sounds like something from an anime. 

 

there are better, simpler and cheaper way to get this done with orbital stations. using either solar power and microwaves for power transfer, or giant orbital parabolic reflectors.

The economic case for space based solar power for Earth has never closed, and likely never will - too expensive, a logistical nightmare, issues with space debris impacts etc.

Maybe we should fill up our deserts and roofs with solar collectors before we try the moon?

 

I bet you could unplug every home and business in North America from the grid for the same price as this moon project.
