Soundbar & PC

Recommended Posts

There is an awesome Black Friday deal that is going to happen on a Soundbar and I have always wanted one.

The issue (maybe) is it's output is RCA.

So, is RCA HD? Like will I actually get surround, full quality out of it?

Also, I have a Maximus VI Impact motherboard, will this work with the soundbar? The soundbar also has optical in, butd don't think my motherboard does.

It's this one, and notice, are they all Surround, or does it have to say Surround for it to be surround? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-soundbar-home-theater-speaker-system/4841342.p?id=1218542603503&skuId=4841342#tab=overview

Ah ok, so that's why it's a good deal.

Maybe it would sound ok, I use headphones normally, so might still sound good to me.

Let's change the question.

I want a surround sound bar, that will be wall mounted under the monitors. What's the cheapest option? (I don't need to hear anything about quality, I know it's not the same as 5.1)

Do I really need surround sound? Not sure myself.

Are you sure it's only RCA input, and that's not the brand it is..

Yes I am sure, as I said it has two connections (red and white) and then Optical In.

I just got this one delivered yesterday. The sound is really good! It is 38" though, a bit longer than the one you like at best buy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DG6FOV0/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Your motherboard should have an optical port. Right above the two HDMI ports. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132039

Yea the Vizio's look nice, but are all made long (for TVs). Though maybe not that big of an issue.

So you don't think you need Surround? Im not sure, if I have ever actually used surround, I normally have headphones.

The one i got comes with DTS TruSurround: http://www.dts.com/professionals/sound-technologies/audio-processing/dts-trusurround-for-tvs-and-sound-bars.aspx

The surround sounds great to me.

Not sure of the insignia one though. Can't find much info on their website either. :\

It should have Optical in. Your motherboard will have optical out that connects to it.

From my research, if a device says Optical In, or Optical Out, it's the same thing, they just choose to write it differently.

Also, I see no specs or reviews stating it has surround. So have you tested this?

Also, are you able to find a canadian store selling that Vizio, I can't seem to find any pricing for it (CAD).

Have been looking at a bunch, and it seems like they might have issues playing some files and such. Though all the reviews are using TVs

If this is connected to my PC, it should play any sound that comes through right?

Ok so I need some help.

Will all soundbars work with my PC through Optical?

Will it play all sound coming from the PC without issue?

What is the best/cheapest surround sound bar available (even if it has a sub-woofer/rear speakers, though has to be wireless)

For example, this one looks good (though I'd rather no back speakers) and if I could find a deal on it I might be willing (though I am really looking to pay $100 or less) but I can't seem to find any available in Canada (unless its old and refurbished) http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-speaker-systems/vizio-s4251w-b4/4505-7868_7-35560754.html

So I went ahead and got the VSB200 Vizio soundbar and I am having issues.

It's plugged into my computer (Maximus VI Impact) through Optical Cable. It detects the optical input in windows (8.1) but no sound is coming from them.

Ideas?

Yes, I have tried all the options.

And yea, why the heck does it only support that, I thought i was suppose to be HD surround?

Ok, so, after making sure all the settings were correct, I changed inputs again, and now it's working.

But, so I really can't have HD audio with Optical, or is it my system? I was told Optical was the best quality possible.
