raid to non-raid problems

Recommended Posts

After getting some problems with my current setup (haven't started my upgrade yet), I decided that having 2 ssds striped is more trouble than it is worth (trying to figure out which bloody cable is which when re-connecting etc.), so I unplugged one of the them and turned raid off in the bios.

Now the storage mode is set to ahci, but when I loaded the Windows 8 installer, the drive doesn't even show up (just my 'store' sata Seagate drive shows up).

The drive is a Samsung 830 series ssd, and the bios recognises it and says it is ok.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Did you destroy the array in the controller interface before you turned off RAID?

The controller will ignore it if it thinks it's part of an array.

Switch back over to raid, remove the drive from the array, go back to AHCI and you should be fine :)
