Console gaming platform future

Recommended Posts

True gamers understand that as long as console continue to become the forefront of gaming platform it will eventually holding back the ultimate potential of PC graphics processing unit in a few years time.

Despite the launch of Xbox One and PS 4, i'm really worry the PC gaming platform will still suffer and view as third class citizen such as diluted game compare to baby console regardless of similar architecture than ever.

PC 4K gaming will not run natively and in lieu of upscale it to match the monitor resolution. I hope many people can just flat out abandon the console once and for all to focus on PC platform to fully unleash the power of graphics processing unit.

I think is redundant to list out any reason why PC is far superior to console, think of it from a different perspective and imagine a world that console no longer exist and the only way to play a game is use the PC Platform. The Game Publisher don't have the option to create exclusive game for a specify platform.

Isn't it splendid?

We no longer need to make ourself look like a fool and waste a chunk of cash spending a substitute platform that literally function exactly the same.

I'm not trying to convince anyone abandon PS4 or XONE, the logic is there and in order to move on and prevent stagnant technology in gaming world and life after console we need to sacrifice something that we come to accustomed for so long 7 generation of console and make sure it doesn't impediment to the future of gaming. Because we love it so much and the only way to move on and simplify the gaming industry is to solely focus on one platform that will carry it into the next century. Developers can immediately develop and design all the game at native 4K from scratch without worrying that the machines unable to handle it. This will lead to rapid advancement in gaming technology because >90% of gamers is using High End Graphic Processing Unit.  As a result, developers can also save the hassle of porting the game to another diluted platform. We had learned the lesson of seven generation console provided more issues than seamless experience for PC GAMERS

This is a brilliant way to end exclusive game and unite gamers into one online network.  The gaming world will look like so much more advance and robust with tablet act as an assistants to stream all the games from the PC if you are on the go to travel or lying at the beach with the advent LTE Advance (True 4G) it won't be much of a problem.

The future is already here but we will stagnant playing games at native 1080p for a very long time because of 8th generation console.

What?  PC games always (well, most of the time) have the capability to be played at higher resolution, with better gfx and multi-monitor setup (when supported).

Console gaming is not new, it was there before and it did not harm PC gaming at all.

What I don't like of the new console is the fact that, we are in 2013, and they have problem pushing pixels at 1080p/60fps.  I mean come on!  Those console won't last as long as the X360 or PS3 if the advent of 4K TV happen faster than expected.  And I have to wonder how the XBox Two or PS5 will be able to push 4K when it seems hard to push 1080p at the moment.

That's what the OP means, because the XBONE and PS4 can barely push out what is considered the standard resolution it is indeed holding back PC gaming, developers will sadly aim for console level graphics instead of focusing on the better graphics on a PC in an attempt to save money, this is bad for us PC gamers because we get crap ports or no PC version at all because there's "no money" in it or for the played out "piracy" reasons

Most people playing video games on their PC don't have cutting edge hardware, most PC gamers have sub-standard hardware that could never dream of gaming in 4K, this will probably be the case for a long time.

1920x1080 monitors will be the standard monitors for a long time to come. 4K monitors are huge and will likely remain huge for a long time. Most people seem to have Monitors around 22 inches etc. 1080 is fine for that resolution. The way I hear people bitching about this makes it seem like people think every PC gamer out there has dual video cards, with the latest versions, and games with 3x4K monitors around them.

What I'm saying is that PC gaming always offered better resolution and GFX and multi-monitor support (when required/supported) than what you see on console.  This was true before, it's going to be true tomorrow.

While I agree with the general idea that consoles hold back technical advancements, it's not the case that most PCs have high-end GPUs. Most PCs actually have absolute garbage GPUs, and much of the challenge of releasing a game on PC involves attempting to scale down to these integrated Intel chipsets and low-power laptop graphics cards. So while consoles have the unfortunate effect of placing an upper limit on technology, they're also not that bad of a baseline. In the last generation it got a bit ridiculous where we still running 2013 games on 2005 hardware, but here's hoping that this generation won't last as long as the previous. At least one EA VP agrees.

I'm pretty happy with the new consoles. 8GB of shared memory is way better than I was expecting (remember when Crytek said they wanted 8GB in the next-gen consoles and everyone was like "wut"?), and the APU design will drive forward heterogenous computing which really is the future, there's no way around it now.

That's the publisher's major mistake, stop catering to the low end, target the mid and high, any serious gamer will have at least a decent mid range card, other than for statistical reasons sales numbers are pointless if what you are releasing is crap, or looks like crap, minecraft should not be seen as a trendsetter but an anomaly

Looking at Steam statistics, the two largest GPU chipsets (and three of the top four) are embedded Intel chips, comprising over 10%.  The primary resolution is 1080p (just under 33%).

What's holding back PC gaming is PC gamers.  Oh, and the cost of upgrading your PC.

This would make sence if most people actually had high end graphics cards.  You cannot hardlly buy a built pc from a store that can handle anything close to what a xbox or ps4 can.  Problem here is anyone finding there way to this site and forum MOST likely has a decent pc but I am the only person I even know around me that has a pc strong enough to play the latest games at high resolutions.   I went down to best buy and the only pc i found that carried a decent GPU which mind you was only a 760 nvidia was 1100 dollars.   PCs are far to fragmented and expensive and complicated for the average person to play games on and know what the hell he was suppose to buy.

Just look at any cross platform game.  COD Black Ops 2.  Sold  just at 1 million copies globally for PC.  Sold 10 Million for PS3,  12mil for 360, 200k for WIIU .

Even Skyrim which I dont even understand why you would buy on consoles out sold the pc. 3mil on PC vs  5mil on Ps3 and 8mil on 360

Not going to happen. Are PCs better? of course! they have better hardware and constantly evolving but there lies the problem as well. How many high end machines you think are out there and how many people who can afford to keep them on the cutting edge compared to consoles? I bet the numbers learn towards the consoles in a big way. The money is in consoles and developers are not going to abandon that gold mine because a few disgruntled elite gamers feel they are been left in the cold.

You pretty much nailed the main problem (Y). Not everyone can afford to run out and buy say a 4k monitor and GPU powerful enough to game on it. If your one of the lucky few who can? good for you but your a minority and there is no profit in targeting a minority when your ignoring a much larger audience. Then there is the other thing, game developers/publishers want to make money and as much as possible. They don't care if you spend thousands on the ultimate gaming rig, unless most people do the same thing there is just no profit in making games that make use of it. Sad but true.

EDIT: That isn't to say developers don't target high end machines, Crytek for example is famous for making games that bring all but the most elite machines to their knees (and sometimes even those machines) and I am sure there are other developers that also target the elite gamers. Just you'll find the "mainstreamers" and many of the smaller studios will target a broader audience to ensure profits but we'll always have a few niche studios that will cater for the higher end of the spectrum.

It's indeed worrying to see that these 'next-gen' consoles are having problems with graphics who are considered current-gen on PC.

For me, the most beautiful thing about consoles is that they're super accesible and affordable for everyone. My brother is 15, he doesn't understand a snitch of PC hardware, still he is a 'hardcore Xbox gamer', whatever that may mean.

It's the choice you have that I like. If you are into pushing the latest and greatest graphics, you can spend your money on regular PC upgrades. If you don't, just buy a console and you set for a long time.

But yea, I do think consoles hold back PC gaming is a way, although it's not as bad as many people seem to believe. (this is all opinion)

Not really. In all seriousness, if consoles didn't exist PC gaming would at best be expensive and at worse die. Most PCs are utter garbage so developers would cater to the market and you'd end up with fewer AAA games and more Facebook/Flash/mobile/tablet games. On top of this, PCs are slowly dying out as less and less people see a need to own one. That may be slowed down or stopped if consoles didn't exist, but that leads to another problem.

What PC gamers seem to think would happen is developers and hardware engineers would push the limits and we'd all have awesome games that max every component. I can understand the logic, but it neglects the increased cost. You'd be upgrading the video card yearly if the limits were endlessly pushed, developers would have to sell games at a higher price and PC gaming would become more cost prohibitive for more people than at present.

It is less a case of consoles holding back PC gaming, and more a case of consoles keeping PC gaming sustainable. That is until tablets kill off the consumer PC, which is only a matter of time IMHO.

If everyone truly wanted consoles that could run any game at 1080p/60 with all the eye candy on, then they would be willing to pay for it.

Are you guys ready to pay 700-800 for a console? Maybe a few of you do, but the vast majority of gamers that like to use consoles are not. They want a relatively cheap way to play all the latest games for the next few years.

Are they're really any affordable 4K monitors at the moment? I don't think there are many that aren't limited to 30Hz anyway.

Mantle is really the missing puzzle of what the PC Game performance lack compared to console. Once every game is mantle ready, the vision of one unify gaming platform is less opaque and couldn't be more happy that vavle constantly advocate it with steamOS that based on debian. We're no longer locked down to specific platform in few years time if everything is going as plan and proceed with seamless transition.

I believe in few years time we can build a more powerful pc that can be much more portable than ps4/X1. The Mac Pro is really a great example of how far we can tweak it to create a better gaming hardware in such a small size.

A Mac Pro also costs $3000.

That's because of dual cpu ,pci ssd, and firepro workstation graphics. We don't think a gaming hardware is going to use that spec to build a beast in such a tiny little box and it will price half of what the Mac Pro at the entry level.

well atm the performanrce of high klevel gfx cards is kike trhose runign on AMD cou hardware, and the 58% on xfire i thin is due t th fct you dont have memory copyng, instead of having 4GB in 2x 290 you have 8GB cus its hardware agnstic and can utilise it all, not sure typin is crap cus ive got hiccups bt think its along those lines
