startrek1997
Hey guys, I am looking into upgradeing my crappy ssd in my mid-2010 mac book and was wondering what your guys sujjestions are? I have heard that cruicel or samsung are nice. I am looking for atleast 250gb. thanks, Matt
farmeunit
Have used both, but have been buying Samsung. No problems with the Crucial, though. I own an 840 Pro and buy regular 840s at work. Probably start getting EVOs.
startrek1997
What about the Hybride drives?
Hurmoth
What about the Hybride drives? That's what I was going to suggest. WD Black? might be something to look at: 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD.
goretsky Supervisor Posted December 6, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted December 6, 2013 Hello, In addition to Crucial and Samsung, Intel's SSDs are also good. I've also had good results with Corsair, Kingston and MyDigitalSSD as well. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky
#Michael
Some might disagree but I have had issues with hd in my older macs and have figured out that not all hd work in the macbook pros. Do yourself a favor and do crucial's product matcher and it will find ssds that will work in it. http://www.crucial.com/store/ssd.aspx EDIT: according to crucial, this ssd will work in a mid-2010 15" macbook pro: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=0066553FA5CA7304
Astra.Xtreme
The Samsung 840 Evo 250GB is probably the best value at the moment. Last I saw, they run something around $150 (USD). +Mirumir 1 Share
D. S. Veteran Posted December 6, 2013 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2013 Considering capacity, 250/6 seems to be the current sweet spot for great performance at a great price. Best price/performance ratio is found in drives like the 250GB Samsung 840 EVO or a 240GB Crucial M500. If you also require some storage space, look into one the hybrid drives produced by either WD or Seagate.
RottGutt
I prefer the Mercury SSD series over at Other World Computing: http://www.macsales.com If your laptop supports 6G (SATA III) interfaces, the Mercury Electra 6G series would be your best bet: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Mercury_Electra_6G/ They make some of the fastest SSD drives available, their prices are fair, and their customer service is far above the standard. startrek1997
Does any one have any experience using the data doubler from owc?
shivs
Does any one have any experience using the data doubler from owc? Yes I used one in my Mid 2012 15" MBP with a Samsung 840 Pro. Worked very well. Very solid compared to the cheap ebay optibays. Edit: Just noticed that you're using a 2010 MBP so I'd check if your optical drive SATA connection will be 6Gbit. Ulpian
Out of >20 SSDs I own or sold, all working well. Cheap and reliable - ADATA SP900 128GB (one of them) and SX900 64GB (the rest).
Boxster17
The Samsung 840 Evo 250GB is probably the best value at the moment. Last I saw, they run something around $150 (USD). I would agree with this, I went with a Crucial SSD a couple years ago and it's been solid but I believe the Samsung now has slightly better performance overall (M500 vs 840 EVO). Is it enough to notice a difference? Probably not since that sort of difference is miniscule (relatively speaking) compared to the jump from HDD to SSD.
