Stephen Riley
Randomly I will get light grey horizontal lines that cover my monitor (Dell U2312HM). They normally go away after 30 seconds or so, but it happens fairly regularly. Is this a known issue? Any solutions?
Neu B
If you have a spare DVI/RGB cable, I would try that first.
Eric Veteran Posted December 6, 2013 Veteran Share Posted December 6, 2013 Can you provide some hardware specs and circumstances? This could indicate a failing monitor as well as a graphics card failure.
+Mirumir Subscriber¹ Posted December 6, 2013 Subscriber¹ Share Posted December 6, 2013 I had a similar issue in the past, also affecting a Dell monitor. The only difference is that I used to get vertical green lines. They would appear shortly after starting the system up and they would go away after a short period of time. I couldn't troubleshoot the issue (swapped cables, etc.) I then blamed it on the inadequate cooling of the memory chips on the GPU. You should check your GPU's cooling and temps. It might be worth it to try to remove the GPU's radiator and reapply it using a fresh thermopaste.
Starbuck84
Had the same issue once, but I had a Samsung monitor. Same as what +zhiVago suggests, check your GPU cooling and temps. Mine were not OK at the time, and when my GPU got too hot I started seeing those grey lines. You could try changing cables, altough I don't think those are at fault. You could just unplug / replug them just to rule things out. And if possible, maybe post a photo of your screen when it happens?
+Zlip792 MVC Posted December 6, 2013 MVC Share Posted December 6, 2013 Few things to do: 1. Try spare DVI cable. 2. Try to update GPU driver if this does not happen at post and always check GPU temperature 3. Calibrate your display settings: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm
BillyJack
I have a vertical line on my monitor that is light green to yellow. It is very annoying and is there most of the time but not always and only on the desktop not in games or at least that I notice. It is not there on a cold boot but there over ninety percent of the time when waking up from sleep. I have not tried to replace the cable but I did get a new graphics card and that did not change anything. I suspect it is the PCI Express slot on the motherboard. Hmm. You know what. I am going to try hooking up another PC and see if I ever get the line. Good luck.
