Any good PC RPGs to suggest?

Recommended Posts

Hello!
I would like to play some good RPG games

So far I have played and completed these games:

  • Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 (with all expansions)
  • Dragon Age Origins and 2 (with all DLCS)
  • The Witcher 1 & 2 (enhanced editions)
  • Fallout 3 & New Vegas (with all DLCS)
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblvion & V: Skyrim (with all DLCS)
  • Deus EX: Human Revoltuion
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2

Please if possible refrain from suggesting open world games like Fallout & Elder Scrolls, these games even though they have a short main quest-line, have countless things to do and they are endless.

Jade Empire, older but fun Bioware game

The Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games along with Planescape:Torment if you're in a retro mood, got tons of gameplay in it and still good after all these years

The Mass Effect series (RPG-lite, but very entertaining)

Divinity 2 wasn't bad (the director's cut anyway), Divine Divinity was pretty good as well if I recall

Dark Souls if you're in a masochistic mood

Edit: Forgot about Kingdoms of Amalur posted below me, actually rather fun too

Morrowind?

Fallout 1&2&Tactics?

Baldur's Gate 1&2?

IceWind Dale 1&2?

Planescape?

Omnikron?

Final Fantasy 7-8?

Might and Magic 1-inf?

Deus EX original?

Arcanum?

KOTOR 1&2?

The Witcher 1&2&3?

I think that about sums up most of the RPGs for PC that were worth anything.

Another vote for the Mass Effect series, great games. If you get Mass Effect 3 I would also recommend getting the Leviathan and From Ashes DLC, they add a lot of backstory

Fallout 1 & 2 - especially if you liked New Vegas. It may be a bit hard at first but if you read the manual you will be okay.

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 - an absolute must play. Bioware games were never as good as their first two. Since it's based on old D&D rules you might want to read about THAC0 and AC before playing.

Icewind Dale 1 & 2 - but only if you like constant action and less focus on storyline, sidequests and NPCs.

Planescape Torment - quite possibly the best RPG ever. Be prepared for more reading than you have ever witnessed in a game.

Other great RPGs aren't released yet (Wasteland 2, Project Eternity etc.) ;)

Mass Effect, particularly Mass Effect 2. I like the exploration / probing minigames in that particular game. But Mass Effect games are always constantly pushing you towards the final battle.. which might put you off.

I forgot to mention that I have also completed these:

Mass Effect 1,2,3
Kingdoms of Amalur
Fable 1,2,3
Jade Empire
Final Fantasy I, III, V, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, XIII

It seems I have played the most worth mentioned RPG games...

Damn man. Well with all of those played, I am not sure what else there is. Actually, I would be very interested in finding another RPG not already listed as well.

If you haven't played Baldur's Gate then you're in luck, it's just been souped up and it's on Steam. Its sequel Baldur's Gate 2 is the best RPG I've ever played. All the Infinity Engine games are well worth investigating, they're cult classics. Both Obsidian and InXile got over 4M$ on Kickstarter just by saying they wanted to make new games (Project Eternity and Tides of Numenera) in the spirit of Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment. If you've liked Neverwinter Nights then you should love these games.

I really recommend FF IV it has one of the best stories of any RPG I have played. Its also known as Final Fantasy II on Super Nintendo.

I believe all of the updates to the Steam version are available for free online, and it's cheaper (and DRM free) on gog.com.

I rarely hear people recommend IV. IMO all of the old ones have their pros and cons and are worth playing. They're also all (I - V anyway) available on iOS.

Gog.com has the original Baldur's Gate, Steam has the new Enhanced Edition by Beamdog. You can also buy the game from Beamdog directly if you don't like Steam.

Baldurs Gate 2 enchanced edition. Best RPG of all time. Especially seeing you seem to like neverwinter, dragon age etc.

Witcher 2 is the best RPG on pc in recent times but youve already played that.

Dark souls is not an RPG , but you should still give it a go, its incredible.

Mass Effect series is pretty good, cant tell if you'll like it though, it is alot more linear then most of the games you listed and the combat is alot simpler (its a very "console" rpg - if that means anything). Still if you like KOTOR you should give it a hoon.

edit: just read you post of updated games. Baldurs gate it is! I would recomend only playing the first one if you finish the second and want more. It really hasn't held up as well as 2 has. They are both absolutely incredible games though.
