Koshur
Hi, I just got openvpn working (kudos to budman for this \m/) on my host OS (Ubuntu) and want that it to be shared within my guest OS (win xp) in VM. My Host is on a 192.168.1.1 network (without vpn) and the guest OS is set to bridge mode. I have access to internet while on bridge mode. Now when i set it to NAT mode:( i believe i would need to, since vpn won't work in bridge?) I can't access internet (i get xxx.xxx.1.7 as ip) I dont have vpn being shared What do i need to do to accomplish this? I'm using VMware Player 5.0.1 build-894247 and also have VMWare workstation 9 installed Thanks Koshur
+BudMan MVC Posted December 7, 2013 MVC Share Posted December 7, 2013 If what you want is your guest to use the vpn, why don't you just setup the vpn on the guest in the first place while using your bridged connection?
Koshur
that was my plan first, but it appears that openvpn client has issues with win XP- SP3. There is an issue that throws some TAP driver error...I'll go over the installation again and see if i can pull this through, but i doubt it (after i spent couple if hours looking for a solution). Well, looks like there is a workaround. I tried using the windows installer from Security Kiss instead of opnevpn client. their installer is neat and does the job for me!.. I do get a speed difference issue (even minus the vpn, inside my VM,i'll raise this over a different thread may be). +BudMan MVC Posted December 7, 2013 MVC Share Posted December 7, 2013 What client - I ran openvpn on my work xpsp3 for quite some time.. Quick google shows this - seems to be a RARE thing.. I sure never ran into it https://forums.openvpn.net/topic8485.html SOLVED: Tap driver install fail on Windows XP SP3
+BudMan MVC Posted December 8, 2013 MVC Share Posted December 8, 2013 So you got the openvpn installed on your guest? Great, so now just need to clear up your nat issue and the other thread and you should be rocking ;) That is if you need your host to use the vpn at the same time your guest uses it? Koshur
Yup. ive got VPN working in my guest using securityKISS windows installer: http://imm.io/1m6Ba. Yes, I'm looking my host and guest to share same VPN simultaneously. I'd prefer not to connect again using a software in my guest.
